In 2007, at the age of 18, Samantha Larson became the youngest person to reach the top of Mount Everest. She is also
the youngest female American who has climbed the so called Seven Summits, the highest mountains on all seven
continents.
Samanthas adventure actually began several years ago. Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa was her first big climb. She was
only 12 at that time and she had already done a lot of hiking and rock climbing before. Soon she decided to conquer the
Seven Summits and in 2002, Samantha and her father climbed Mount Aconcagua in South America. During breaks
along the climb, Samantha found time to do her homework! Next the father and daughter team climbed Mt Ebrus in
Europe, Denali in North America, Mt Kosciuszko in Australia and Vinson Massif in Antarctica. Finally, Samantha and
her team reached Everest in Asia. The spectacular view of the Himalayas made her cry with emotion and exhaustion.
Now the young climber is getting ready for a new challenge college. Next autumn she is going to start studying at
Stanford University.
