- There is one student on the autistic spectrum who learns very quickly, but
struggles with interacting with his classmates
- There are no students with any documented mental or physical disabilities
- I have many students who are ESL, so visuals will be very important
Entry Competencies:
Students need to be able to count to at least 20.
Children need to be able to recognize the numerals 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9.
Children need to be able to count a given number of objects (to at least 20) correctly.
Children need to be able to match up the number with those counted. *** represented by a
number 3.
Learning Styles:
Different learning styles in the classroom include: Visual, Auditory, Tactile
I have learned that students in Pre K to K appear to learn best through with
technology when they are presented with visuals, song and dance, videos, and
interactive games.

General ABCD Objective: Given online tools and video demonstrations, First grade students
should be able to add different objects together to find out how many objects there are total.
The students should be able to explain up to 3 different reasons that being able to add is
important. Students will also use addition within 20 to solve word problems involving
situations of adding to, and putting together by using objects, drawings, and equations with
a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.

Select Strategies:
This lesson lends itself to both teacher and student-centered strategies.
Teacher centered strategies
o On Day 1 to 4, I will use the Smart Board, Powerpoint, VoiceThread, and
Rawshorts throughout this lesson to present and explain different types of
patterns using various examples.
Student centered strategies
o On Day 1, students will learn why it is important to learn math, as well as the
basic concepts of adding two sets of numbers to get a total. Students will
review addition comic strips (Pixton).
o On Day 2-3, students will learn about turn-around facts (Powerpoint). They will
then complete a practice exercise. Lastly, students will learn how to add using
a number line by watching a video created by me.
o On Day 4, students will work on practice exercises relating to doubles facts.
o On Day 5, students will create their own interactive addition story. They will
also take a quiz.

The lesson will take place in the computer lab. Each computer needs to be checked
to ensure that Internet is working to play the videos and games.

To prepare students, the teacher will have to introduce the lesson and review the

The smart board will be utilized during the lesson by showing different examples of
adding.
I will explain how using a number line helps when solving problems using selfcreated tutorials.

This lesson uses a single theme on shapes to guide the lesson for week.
Day 1:
Warm Up:
Students will look at trading card to see how math is used in the real world.
Lesson:
I will use Pixton to show different math equations through comic strips.
Activity:
Students will get into groups and create their own addition comics.
Day 2:
Warm Up:
The students and I will congregate at the learning rug to go over addition concepts
and terms.
Lesson:
I will use PowerPoint to introduce a new addition strategy involving turn-around facts.
Activity:
Students will practice a turn-around facts activity on the computer.
Day 3:
Warm Up:
Students will get into groups and will be given a plastic bag with fruit loops inside. I
will give each group 3 number sentences to represent with their fruit loops.
Lesson:
I will show my tutorial video about using number lines to add. I will reflect on the
video also.
Activity:
Students will work on computer games to practice using the number line to add
(Math IXL)
Day 4:
Warm Up:
No warn up activity
Lesson:
I will talk about the adding doubles strategy today. I will play an introduction video
that I created on adding doubles.
Activity:
Students will practice adding doubles on [Link]; students will also work on
a practice worksheet about doubles.
Day 5:
Warm Up:
Students would come to the whiteboard and draw out additionsolutions using any
math strategy that we have gone over.
Lesson:
No lesson for today.
Activity:
Students will take a small assessment on addition. I will use a self-created poll quiz.
