Complex PD Reflection
As a student teacher at Queen Kaahumanu, I was able to attend
the McKinley Complex Professional Development. There I got to meet
the district superintendent and sit in on a very inspirational and
motivational speech from the keynote speaker Mr. McGuey. The
conference was held for three hours, were we got to meet with other
teachers from other schools within the district as participation in five
minute activities conducted from Mr. McGuey. His whole speech was
about leadership, and how we as teachers see ourselves in five and ten
years from now, and what are we doing to progress.
I really enjoyed the video he shared about leadership, where it
really shows what leadership looks like through different lenses. It
taught me that a leader isnt always necessarily someone that makes
decisions, but one that reflects on their work and has the willingness to
move forward. I learned that leadership is all about courage and
strength, how much are we as teachers going to put on our shoulders
so we could carry out students to victory? Overall, what his speech
about leadership taught me, was how am I going to ensure my
students become leaders?
By setting my personal goals, in five years, I hope to have a
strong foundation on my teaching practices, and that I could use
innovative ideas to strengthen my methods on how I approach
teaching. In ten years, I hope to take part in the national board

certification, validating my effectiveness as an educator. My goal as a
teacher is to be a part of that difference, where I guide and not fail my
students.
