Classroom Math Resources and Activities

The classroom resources that can be used for mathematical concepts include Unifix cubes, models of shapes, calculators, and rulers. Unifix cubes can be used to teach counting, calculating, comparing size and ordering, sorting, and patterns. Models of shapes allow students to learn shape names, compare sizes and order shapes, sort by color, estimate measurements, and calculate area and perimeter. Calculators can help solve difficult math problems and perform operations. Rulers can be used to estimate measurements, compare sizes, and measure lengths and weights of objects.

TASK 5: Classroom Resources

Mathematical
Resources found
in the classroom:

Unifix cubes
(Example given)

Mathematics Skill / Concept

that can be developed with it.

Suggest possible activities to develop

mathematical skills and concepts using
these materials

Counting, calculating including

more / less than; addition,
subtraction
Comparing size and ordering
bigger / longer, smaller, shorter;
Sorting, matching according to
colour; patterns; copying patterns.
Estimating / Measuring length &
weight how many bricks long, tall,
wide? How many bricks will
balance a pencil, book etc?

Model of Shapes

To name the different names of the

shapes. For example cube , cone ,
cylinder.
Comparing the size and order the
shapes
Sorting , matching the color

Teacher can do many math activities by the

shapes. For example , Teacher match the
different colors of the shapes , and let the
students find out the length and weight of
different shapes. Then, write the number in the
paper near each shapes. This can help students
to know different names of the shapes , and how
to find the area and perimeter of the shapes.

Estimating measuring length and

weight
Find out the area and perimeter of
the different shapes
Calculator

To find the answer for the difficult

math issues
Add and subtract and multiply and
divide numbers
Solve long mathematic issues

Ruler

Estimating measuring the things

and find the length and weight of
the shapes by ruler
Comparing the size

Teacher can do some activities by let the

students using the calculator. Firstly, Let the
students solve the math issues in groups and
walk around the class to help the students who
want help. Then , correct the worksheet for the
students
Teacher can do measuring activities using the
ruler. She will give them different things to
measuring them , and starting from the begging
to the end of the shape.
