Peace Lutheran Church Council Meeting October 12, 2016- 6 p.m.
Meeting called to order by Chairman Tom Gardner at 6:06 p.m. Present: Charles, Lois, Jennifer, Pastor Don, Leon, Brenda,
Sandy K., Marilyn, Tom G., and Joyce Hanson.
We gather in Gods name: Devotions were led by Pastor Don from the Healthy Congregations series by Bishop Wohlrabbe.
Tonights focus was on flexibility and creativity. Congregational change is important to be flexible, we must be willing to
learn and be creative so we can bounce back from adversity with a sense of humor also. Collective discussion re: our own creativity used these past ten months.
Kyries and Glorias: our highs and lows were shared with each other. Prayers requested.
We look to the future: Joyce Hanson, the Peace Call and Search committee Chair reported on the committees visit and formal
interview with Pastoral candidate, Sarah Evenson. Based on the results from our congregational survey, the search/call committee has unanimously recommended we pursue the hiring of Pastor Evenson because she meets many of the criteria identified in the completed survey results. A letter of the search committee recommendations will accompany the meeting minutes
on file.
Leon Johnson made a motion we proceed with the process of hiring Pastor Evenson for contracted pastoral services. A second
to the motion was offered by Brenda Long, MC. Joyce will coordinate an informal meeting with Pastor Evensons present parishes leadership {East and West Moe Churches} , Peace executive committee and the call committee leadership to discuss the
process. Joyce will also inform the NW Synod {Pastor Paul Erdal} of our intention and will request the initiation of the necessary professional background checks which the synod will perform. Financial, time requirements and contract negotiations
will be undertaken with the Peace council, Peace Search committee and Pastor Evenson. As the process proceeds, Chairman
Tom will keep the congregation informed.
We celebrate our past, our history as Gods people: Administrative reports supplied for review. Motion to accept secretarys
and treasurers reports as printed made by Leon with second by Lois. MC
Pastors report: Discussion re: the need for an additional lap top computer for Joyces and Heathers use. Tom will seek their
opinions re: need. Pastor Don will coordinate a date in November for a congregational presentation re: the Mutual Ministry
Committee which our present constitution already provides for.
We offer up our concerns of the past (old business):
Youth Leaders assessment of that ministry: Heather will be invited to attend the November council meeting for a 90 day
review. Tom will discuss with Heather.
Magnetic Signage for the bus: Discussion re: the use of memorial funds (from Bev Hubbards family) to use for that purpose. Admin Sandy has obtained quotes.
Report regarding confirmation and release time given by Tom. Recent information from Heather that ministries are going well. Release time meets Wednesday mid-day with 15-18 students attending. Confirmation class meets Wednesdays for 2 hours after school with 11 students attending. Per Toms report all is going well. Marilyn will do a Newsletter Spotlight article in November regarding both of these Peace ministries.
Council approved partial payment of $17.25 (from Youth budget) per student for a fall Youth field trip to Valley Fair.
Heather is coordinating transportation and chaperones. Students will be responsible for the $10.00 balance of the ticket price.
October 30th Special offering food shelves. Sunday, October 9 th Sunday School collection very successful. Be alert to dating on food items when contributing. Tom and Jennifer will problem solve re: correct mailing address for Hoffman
Food Shelf. Sandy K has been having problems with connecting with that organizations leadership for our donations.
Council vacancy: 15 months remain on the vacated term. Members of the council offered potential names for the short
term replacement. Marilyn will call potential candidate(s) and seek a replacement and will notify church Admin,
Sandy and council chairman.
We offer up our concerns for the future (new business): Leon will contact person for snow removal for the parking lot.
We offer Prayers: Pastor Don led us in closing evening prayer.
