Jing Screencasting for Student Engagement

Jing is a screencasting software that allows students to record their computer screen and audio. The document proposes that students can use Jing to create tutorials of lessons and problems to reinforce content. Creating screencasts would require students to teach content, which research shows leads to stronger understanding and retention of 90% of the material. Using screencasting aligns with ISTE standards and transforms lessons by actively engaging students in demonstrating their mastery of concepts in a unique way not possible without the technology.

VALUE-ADDED EXPLANATION

Given the information above, how would the technology integration you described, using the
selected resource? (On the Value-Added Rating Scale above) 3
Explain your rating based on the indicators on the rubric.
I believe screencasting is a unique and very effective tool which either a teacher or students can
use. It is most optimal and aligns with standards when students create their own screencasts. It
fosters understanding, creativity, and engagement. By creating tutorials students show mastery
in a unique way.
