Spur Gear Design Procedure Guide

This document outlines the procedure for designing spur gears, including 20 steps. The key steps are: 1. Determine the speed ratio between the pinion and gear. 2. Select suitable materials for the gears and calculate properties like Young's modulus. 3. Calculate the design torque and select a tooth profile and pressure angle, typically 141⁄2° or 20°. 4. Calculate factors like surface contact stress, bending stress, and center distance to design the gears to transmit the torque without exceeding stress limits. 5. Iterate the design, checking dimensions and stresses until a valid design is reached.
