Teaching Reflections: Week 2 Insights

Zainab taught her second lesson on place value which was challenging because some students misbehaved and the other teacher did not provide much help. She realized she needed ways to better control the classroom. The next week, she reviewed multiplication with students and found that most needed help except for 4 students. She reflected on needing more classroom manipulatives to help engage students, especially those with lower abilities. In her next lesson on the relationship between multiplication and division, her mentor teacher provided feedback that the lesson focused too much on the teacher and needed more student activities, which Zainab realized was an area for her to improve.

Week 2 journals
Sunday 16th of Oct. 2016
I taught my second lesson which was about place value. I prepared my
materials before the lesson began. The MST wasnt there. There was another
teacher with me. It was harder than first time I taught. Because some
students ignore and ignore the teacher. She didnt help me. So, it was a big
challenge for me to control the classroom. After this lesson, I decide to find
ways to control the students in the classroom.

Monday 17th of Oct. 2016


Today I took a period to review with the student the multiplication. My MST
says that the next lessons are depending on multiplication and division. I did
some activities for the students about multiplications to check their
knowledge of it. I found through the activities that there are about 4 students
in the classroom are good in multiplication but others need some help.

Tuesday 18th of Oct. 2016


Today I start doing week 2 task which is about classroom manipulative. I
didnt found many objects accept the small disks which is very useful. I saw
the teacher depend on them for many activities. I think that having more
materials will be better for students especially low-ability students. My MST
wasnt in the school. So, I use this time with the students revise with them
the place value and the forms (standard, expanded and word). I did use the
manipulative I saw that the students werent used to them.

Wednesday 19th of Oct. 2016


I was very excited today because Ill teach the students a new lesson which
is the relationship between multiplication and division. I did teach the
lesson and my MCT evaluate me and gives me feedbacks that was helpful to
me. I wasnt very happy because I think it was teachers center like what my
MCT said. She said also that students didnt have many activities to do. That
was right because there was only one activity. Her comments makes me
think deeply about what I need to improve in my teaching. Next time I will
make explore the concept by themselves.
