Karman-Tsien Rule in Aerodynamics Exam

This document outlines the topics and questions for an aerodynamics exam, including: 1) Differences between subsonic and supersonic airfoils, the area rule, Karman-Tsien rule, and importance of critical Mach number. 2) Schematic of a supersonic wind tunnel. 3) Derivation that linearized pressure coefficient depends only on x-component of perturbation velocity. 4) Definition of effective body and determining momentum thickness. 5) Calculations for aircraft at Mach 2.2 including angle of attack, skin friction and wave drag, and angle where wave drag equals skin friction drag.

5.

Consider an aircraft with platform area 19m2 in steady level flight at Mach 2.2
at 8km altitude. The weight of the aircraft is at its combat weight of 10200Kgf.
Assume that all the lift of the airplane comes from the lift on the wings and the
CL of the wing is the same as the Cl for the airfoil section. Calculate the
followings:
a) Angle of attack of the wing relative to the free stream
(
