Dear Parents,
The use of the Internet and computer is increasing in our classrooms as computers are a vital tool in
the learning and instructional process of your student. Information is now available and being
delivered by computers over networks such as the Internet. As with all classroom assignments and
projects, the students are guided and monitored in their work by their teacher. The Internet is a
resource with access to other networks and people around the world; therefore, it is very possible
that students may have access to information, which may not be appropriate for their age level.
As a Christian School, we are very protective of our students and thoughtfully limit their access to
content in our textbooks, our libraries, and through technology. Regarding technology, Whittier
Christian Schools complies with the federal Child Internet Protection
Act (CIPA). More information

a compliant school, we have Internet safety policies that include technology protection and content
filtering measures. Our content filtering services block materials that are harmful to minors on all
computers accessing the Internet from our Maybrook or Newlin campus servers. This information is
presented annually to our students and families at our back-to-school nights and in writing through
our Parent/Student Technology Agreement.
As technology progresses, we are keeping up with the times. WCS plans to create a Google account
for each child that would allow a virtual portfolio of your childs work to follow them through their
time at Whittier Christian Schools. All accounts will be created under the Whittier Christian name
and will be closely monitored by our teachers and tech team. If you dont feel comfortable with this,
please circle no on the following page regarding the approval of a Google account.
The responsibility for appropriate use rests with the student. We will instruct your student in the
proper use of the Internet. It is also very important to discuss the appropriate use of the Internet
with your child and to monitor their Internet use at home. At an appropriate time, your students
computer teacher will discuss the importance of using the Internet and other computer resources
properly with your student. We want to make you familiar with our expectations as well.
Please review the following with your child. We ask that you sign and date the form to acknowledge
that you have received the information and reviewed it. Please return the signed form to your
students classroom teacher.

Computer and Internet Rules
Second Eighth Grade Acceptable Use Policy
I understand that as I use computers, and the Internet under the
direction of a teacher, I will follow these rules:
I will use computers and the Internet in an appropriate and safe way. I may use the
Internet for finding information and/or to communicate with students, only when given
instruction to do so.
I will not send information that does not belong to me or send inappropriate material over
the Internet.
I will never damage or destroy computers or the work of another student or interfere with
another students computer.
I will be polite and follow all procedures in the computer lab and the classroom.
I will always use appropriate language that is pleasing to the Lord.
I will never give out personal information over the Internet.
I will respect my privacy and not give my home address, phone number, names or
addresses of family members, or the addresses or phone numbers of other students.
The Tech Teacher will set the procedures for using computers and the Internet in the
computer lab and I agree to follow them.
My son/daughter and I have read these rules and discussed the content. He/she agrees to follow
these rules whenever using the computers and Internet connection during school.

Please read this to your student
I understand that as I use computers in the computer lab,
I will follow these rules:
I will use computers in an appropriate and safe way. I will not run in the lab or move any
computer equipment.
I will never bang on any computer parts or touch my classmates computer.
I will be polite and follow all procedures in the computer lab.
I will always use an appropriate voice and words that are pleasing to the Lord while in the
computer lab.
I will not go on the Internet unless given permission.
I will only open programs that Mrs. Andros instructs me to open.
I will ask for help if my computer is not acting right and not try to fix it myself.
I will not print unless given permission.
The Tech Teacher will set the procedures for using computers and possibly the Internet in the
computer lab and I agree to follow them. Failure to follow the rules will result in lost computer
time.
I have read these rules to my son/daughter and discussed the content. He/she agrees to follow
these rules whenever using the computers during school.

B.Y.O.T. Student Agreement
(Bring Your Own Technology)
Whittier Christian Schools will allow you, as a student, to Bring Your Own Technology to use on
campus. However, the use of personal student technology at WCS for educational uses is a privilege,
not a necessity. A student does not have the implicit right to use his/her laptop, cell phone, or other
electronic device while at school, except as allowed by this agreement. When abused, BYOT
privileges will be taken away. When respected, they will benefit the learning environment as a whole.
Students and parents/guardians participating in the BYOT program must have also signed the WCS
Acceptable Computer Use Agreement.
When on a WCS Campus, all personal student technology:
must be in silent mode while on school grounds
may not be used to cheat on assignments or tests, or for non-instructional purposes
may not be used for photography or video unless they have received permission from both a
faculty/staff member and those being recorded or photographed.
Student Expectations
Students may use mobile devices f or educational purposes in class with the teachers
expressed permission.
Cell phones should be stored in backpacks. Use of cell phones for voice calls or text
messages is not allowed during school hours. Doing so will result in confiscation of the
device and will only be returned to a parent. If it is necessary to contact a parent, students
should make contact through the school office.
Connecting to any campus network with a students personal technology will not be allowed.

Processing or accessing information on school property related to hacking, altering, or
bypassing network security policies is a violation.
Students are prohibited from accessing chat rooms, Instant Messaging, or social media while
on the WCS campus.
WCS reserves the right to monitor users and may search the users device if it is believed
that school rules have been violated. This may include, but is not limited to audio and video
recording, photographs taken at school that violate the privacy of others, cyber bullying, and
accessing inappropriate material.
Each student is responsible for his/her own device: set-up, trouble shooting, maintenance,
and charging. Teachers will not store students devices. Personal technology is to be charged
prior to bringing it to school and runs off its own battery while at school. Students will not
always have access to power sources.
Responsibility to keep privately owned devices secure rests with the student. WCS is not
liable for any device stolen or damaged on campus.

Parent and Student Agreement
We understand and will abide by the above policy and guidelines. We further understand and
agree that any violation is an act of disobedience and may result in the loss of BYOT privileges,
as well as, confiscation of devices, loss of all computer use at school, and other disciplinary
actions, including suspension and/or expulsion from schools. We understand that personal
student technology is the students sole responsibility and any loss or damage is at our own risk.
