"I love helping people to find

their true selves and discover
real meaning in their life. It's my
calling in life to teach proper
Holistic Nutrition & to open
people's minds up to see the
world in new and exciting ways!
Personally I am living proof that
a happy, healthy, spiritually
aware life is possible and I want to share that with the
world"

"Growing up I was always inquisitive and asked a lot of

questions! I always wanted to learn the truth about the
world that we live in and was always fascinated in how
people 'ticked' and interacted". This has helped me on my
journey to discovering what my purpose in the world is and
to launch out with confidence, knowing that I can help others
to achieve the same clarity, peace and happiness."
What Is Counselling Therapy?
Counselling is a powerful talking and listening therapy that allows you to be truly heard in a
compassionate, confidential, safe and non-judgemental setting. It can be useful in your personal
growth and development and to work through past or present issues that you feel are impacting
on your life. It can also be used in order to develop deeper self-awareness and find more
meaning to life by exploring the self in a way that peels back the layers of the conscious mind in
order to reveal the true spirit of self.
This is done through person to person communication and unlike day to day interactions with
friends, family and associates the focus is solely centred on you, the client.

I have personally experienced the power of counselling within my own life and the positive effects
this therapy has on ones life.
Different types of Counselling Therapies
There are many types of counselling theories; however they come under three catergories:

Humanistic

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Psychodynamic

Each one has a core belief system and has different theories on how people develop, what goes
wrong for a person in order to create a dysfunction i.e. Negative feelings or behaviour and how to
help that person overcome this dysfunction and feel well again.
When working with clients it can be quite a ridged framework to work within a pure theory and so
there is another option known as Integrative counselling. This allows a therapist to integrate a few
carefully chosen theories based on a counsellor's core beliefs and knowledge of the different
theories which in turn gives more flexibility to tailor the work to the particular client and allows the
work to flow rather than being dictated by one particular theory.
What theory do we use here at The Life Remedy?
The counselling model used at The Life Remedy is an Integrative model I have developed from
my own personal knowledge and experiences, my study of a wide range of theories and
experiences I have had with clients. After delving into my core belief systems, whilst undergoing
my initial training, I tailored a unique style of working with clients that I have found to resonate
with both me and my clients. This is a life-long process that has taken many years to create to
this point and will always be developing as I myself learn and grow.
The model I use with clients consists of a combination of Logo-therapy, which is about finding
your true meaning in life and is based around the works of Viktor Frankel, and Abraham Maslow
whose theory matches my preference to see the better qualities of humankind and bestows a
belief in a greater human potential. With a belief that every human being has a self-actualizing
tendency and that once the basic needs (oxygen, food and water, shelter, comfort) are met,
humans have a tendancy to desire and strive for more growth, means that everyone has the inner

drive to become the best that they can be and the ability to develop in human potential,
eventually leading to self-actualisation and transcendence.
However, in my observations, life for humans within the western culture today is changing rapidly
and these changes are difficult to keep up with. In my view, life is a sequence of events that is
leading to a speeding up in the evolution of human beings, I also see that people are getting
stuck or don't understand this process which can lead to feelings of depression, anxiety, fear,
negative thinking patterns, feeling trapped or restless in life or create negative patterns of
behaviour that is self-destructive and holds you back within your personal evolutionary progress.
This does not have to be the case! During our work together, I hope that we can resolve these
feelings by finding your personal sticking points, weather past traumas, present stressors or
anxiety about the future and help you to move forward with your personal goals and missions
with a greater understanding of self, others, your place in the world, and find the meaning in your
life.

Everyone is different! Counselling is a work in progress and positive change takes
time, depending upon the issues bought to counselling and the desired outcome

you wish to see. This will affect how many sessions you will need. I myself have
found that I prefer to have counselling weekly, for around 6 months and then I
like to take a couple of months break to process what has been worked upon, then
I continue with my sessions. For you, if you have experienced counselling before,
you may know your personal preferance, however if you haven't then I do
recommend starting with 10 - 20 weekly sessions and we can always discuss when

Counselling has come a long way since the stigma's that used to be attached i.e.
'you go when something is wrong' or 'needs fixing' or 'you have to be depressed or
suffer from mental illness to go to counselling'. Counselling and any form of
therapy is now commonly viewed as an 'investment in oneself and looking after
one's mental health' & 'a personal development tool'. Counselling, for many, is a
life long commitment to bettering yourself and in turn becoming a more wellrounded, self-aware, and compassionate person for those closest to us. This is
why incorporating counselling into your life, just as you would regularly keeping
an exercise routine to stay physically fit, is the best way of looking at our sessions
together. The bigger the block you book, the more you save, so 'Invest in Yourself
Now' to save a HUGE 18%!

Health is a major concern in this day in age and now more than ever. Over half of
adults (approx 1.7 million in the UK) are inflicted with chronic illnesses such as
diabetes, arthritis, heart disease etc. Is it any wonder with the masses suffering
from nutrient deficiencies, toxin overloads, weight issues, stress and depression
as the norm?

With the dreaded cancer diagnoses on the rise (Recent statistics predict that 1 in 2
of us will develop cancer during our lifetime!) and other life altering illnesses
such as Alzheimer's, dementia and mental illnesses on the rise too, Now is a great
time to invest in The Most Important aspect of your life - Yours and your loved
one's health.
Doctors are under extreme pressure and do not have the time or resources to do
anything but prescribe phamaceutical medications to treat the symptoms of
conditions, however these often have their own side-effects that often bring other
sinister consequences.
A Health Coach is a fantastic way to take control over your own health and delve
deeper into your specific issues, preventing the development of health conditions
in the long run, as well as improving any existing illnesses.
During our sessions we will evaluate your specific health concerns and then we
will look at the bigger picture by undergoing a holistic overview of your lifestyle.
This includes;
Looking at your diet & nutrition; exercise regimes; negative
behavioural/thinking patterns; and unconscious traumas or blocks to good
health.
This may include: Bio Resonance testing depending up on your
personalised package.
Once this is established, we can consider what may be contributing to your
health concerns.
How to develop these areas in order to improve your health in general or
existing conditions.
How to accomplish that within a few simple steps and using
naturalsupplements & methods.

There are millions of people who are out there looking for the 'right person; often
in bars & clubs, at work, social events and on the internet. Some of us are lucky
enough to find someone we 'click with', fall in love and have a good relationship
with, but for many it is not that easy.
Dating is often a daunting experience and with a minefield of advice and
information out there that is often contradicting and confusing, so I am not
surprised that people call me for help feeling overwhelmed by the dating world!
I've been coaching people through their dating experiences for over 5 years and,
in my opinion, there is not a 'one size fits all' approach. Every person is different
and that means that every dating/relationship experience is unique and so they
must be treated that way.
I've learnt that dating can take a lot of physical, finacial and emotional
investment, but the best investment you can make is in yourself. Learning to
understand and clarify who you are, what you need and want from your potential
relationships have the biggest impact for positive changes in your dating life and

future relationships. It cultivates a solid foundation from which any future

relationship has the the best chance to grow and flourish.
Once we have completed your initial break-through session we can get to work on
the most important person you will ever have a relationship with - YOU. Together
we will look at;
Your personal early life experiences with your care givers
Your relationship with your caregivers and what you have unconsciously
learnt from their relationships with others.
Your unconscious beliefs about those you have relationships with and how
any negative beliefs or behaviour patterns are holding you back.
We will look at what it is you want from your potential partner and what
stregnths and weaknesses you are bringing to any potential partner.
We will take a look at your image, behaviours and the way you conduct
yourself and what this may be attracting to you.

We will practice dating and anxiety busting tips together so you can go out
there feeling confident and your best self.

By looking at the dating do's and don't's we can alter any dating
sabbotaging behaviours so that anyone you are dating will want to come
back for more, everytime!
You can go into your next relationship feeling confident that it has the best
change to develop into something meaningful and lasting, knowing that
you are bringing the best version of yourself and making sure you hold out
for someone who will truely love and respect you because you love and
respect yourself.
After which I can coach and guide you whilst you navigate your dating life and
through the early stages of a relationship so you can finally live in your happily
ever after!

Relationships

Romantic relationships are different now to how they were 10 or 20 years ago
and there seems to have been a sudden leap in evolution to how we feel and think
about our intimate relationships.
With the statistics suggesting that 60% of marriges end in divorce it's no wonder
that people are looking for answers for why, and how we can overcome it or
change in order to suit the new way of being in relation to each other. In america
it is common for people to attend relationship counselling or hire a relationship
coach in order to get things back on track, but in the UK it's becoming more and
more of a popular solution for couples to work things through with someone who
understands and can be a referee when things get uncomfortable or passionate.
A recent study in the Daily Mail showed that although the average relationship
used to last about 7 years (aka 'the seven year itch') the average length of a
relationship in the UK now is around 2 years and 9 months. They go on to suggest
that social media and the internet is a major contributor to these statistics.
However this dissatisfaction within our existing relationships in my opinion,
stems from this new outlook on life that we have developed over the past few
years and what we want from it has changed. The human race is rapidly evolving
and therfore, so must how we conduct our relationships evolve too. When the
going gets tough it seems that more and more people are looking around at thier
options like flicking through an catalogue rather than putting the effort in to work
at the relationship they are in, with the person they are with.
However, a healthy relationship gets better or worse depending on how much or
how little we understand and invest in it. Humans are wired to want to be in a
relationship. A loving, communicative, and supportive, secure relationship can be a
great source of energy and happiness. This has a ripple affect within all the branches
of life: your health, mind, & work. However, an unhappy, abusive or unsupportive
relationship can be a tremendous drain on your overall life and so, being able to
recognise that and address it is of equal importance.

I want to help people to live happier, healthier lives and with relationships being a
major factor impacting on this I feel this is a great area for us to work on. This is a
non-judgemental service and in the strictest confidence (seeterms and
conditions for more info on our confidentiality policy)
I see couples, families and individuals who want to improve they're relationships for
the better, to reconcile differences and to have a healthy, happy and loving
relationship whatever that means for them. I like to focus on the positives and build
from there, however aim to be open to discussing anything and everything.

Family & Parenting

When we have our children, they unfortunately do not come with a manual telling
you how to handle the trials and tribulations of family life and parenting. Family
is such an integral part of our world, when things go wrong, there is conflict,
illness or unrest then it is tough to know where to turn! Using natural, positive
but effective solutions, A Life Remedy Coach will help you and your family put the
peices back together and build a personal 'manual' together, restoring your peace,
love and happiness.
When we become parents, there is no handbook that tells you how to raise a
family or what to do when things go wrong and your little angels halos suddenly
fall off!

If you are experiencing problems with your children then it can be extremely
stressful and difficult to know where to turn and who to turn to.
Using natural, positive and kind methods I can help you to re-establish the
equalibrium within the family unit, so that all parties are working together to
achieve harmony and tame unruly behaviours.
Things that we look at within sessions include:
Diet and nutrition
Health and well-being
Taming tantrums
Dealing with teen issues
Setting boundaries that create a safe and secure environment
for children to thrive and flourish.
Positive parenting techniques.
And more...
All parents are different and so I ensure that every coaching package tailored to
your family individually.

How Long Is the Process?

Coaching deals with an intentional change of your personality and lifestyle. This
does not happen from one day to the next. Some clients make coaching an
integral part of their life and thats great. But perhaps right now you are only
seeking help in a specific situation. Thats fine. We recommend 6-12 months in
order to see lasting change.

NLP & Hypnosis

For these two services you do not need to book a break-through
session - Just fill out the contact form and I will contact you to book
your session!
NLP or Neuro-Linguistic Programming is a method of influencing brain
behaviour through the use of language and other types of communication to
enable a person to "rewire" the way the brain responds to stimuli, also known as
"programming". This in turn helps the person who receives the NLP, to manifest
new and better behaviours. Neuro-Linguistic Programming often incorporates
hypnosis and self-hypnosis to help achieve the change that is wanted.
That is why, at the life remedy we merge the two together depending upon which
technique is being used in order to help clients relax enough to access the
unconscious mind and get the results that would normally take months of hard
work and effort to attain.
It is a truly remarkable feat to sit down with a client and to alleviate their lifelong
phobia or addiction for instance, within one or two hour long session.

Why We Keep Making Decisions We Know Are Bad For Us Forgive

yourself for not being at peace. The moment you completely accept your
non-peace, your non-peace is transmuted into peace. Anything you accept
fully will get you there, will take you into peace. This is the miracle of
surrender. ~ Eckhart Tolle Anyone who has dealt with an addiction, a
dysfunctional relationship, knew it wasnt making them happy, or even been
on a diet has experienced that little voice in the back of their mind telling
them not to do something but they did it anyway. Maybe an alcoholic hears
it as they are driving to the liquor store and still their foot presses on the
pedal to keep going, or maybe youve found yourself invited to attend an
event with a friend who has only brought negativity and drama to your life
and against your better judgment you still agree to go, or maybe a
gambling addict encompassed in debt finds themselves once again pulling

into the casino parking lot. The details vary from person to person but
almost everyone has at one time or another found themselves making a
choice that they absolutely without a doubt knew was not good for them,
yet almost as if their body was possessed by another entity, they found
themselves making the very decision the little voice told them not to. It is
almost as if they had no choice in the matter. Unfortunately we have been
living in a world that preaches things like more self-discipline, or work
harder, faster, make more money, control yourself and your actions by
methods of fear and shame. And for anyone who has dared to go deeper
than just changing things externally in order to make healthier and more
conscious decisions, know that exerting more control over ourselves by
beating ourselves up for our actions is a method that simply does not work.
All things stem from deeper emotional issues or subconscious belief
systems that are hardly ever readily seen by the conscious mind. But a new
reality has emerged. If making good decisions for ourselves was really a
matter of just more self control, I dare to say the success rate in changing
ourselves would actually be a lot higher. More self control is not the answer.
So what is? In order to find the answer we must look at the question, why
do I keep making choices I know arent good for me? What Others are
Reading : Drunken Monkey, Laughing Dragon: Behold, the Year of the Fire
Monkey Stop the war going on internally Some of the most extraordinary
moments can be devalued and stained by feelings of shame and
unworthiness. Thought patterns that spiral you into existence of limitations.
You dont even realize you are doing it, and you think because you are
exerting a tremendous amount of effort to make things work you are on the
right path. This is an insane life. The only work to be concerned with is not
external. Let life take you, mold you, shape you, surrender your resistance,
your need for control and your existence will be more beautiful, more
meaningful, more love packed than if you followed a guru or a leader, or
enforced a mental system or ideal. ~ Amy Larson If we look at the above
question we see that there is an element of blame involved. Why do I
as if we are the ones in control of the choice. Therein lies the problem. The
more we think we are the ones in charge will be directly proportionate to
how fiercely we have clung to judgment and blame ourselves (or in some
instances others) when it comes to making decisions. The key here is to
surrender. But what does surrender really mean? And how will it actually
have the power to change our lives for the better? We are brought up to
think that we have absolute control over everything in our lives. To think
otherwise is a terrifying thought to an ego that wants to be in charge of
everything. But the first step to a more fulfilling existence and to making
better choices for ourselves must be to actually declare that we are in

charge of nothing. By seeing things from this perspective, we actually rise

to a vibration where everything becomes ok. For an ego that is used to be
judged as good or bad, for every emotion or action this will feel strange
at first. For instance, in the example of the compulsive gambler, when we
have relinquished our alleged control over our actions and everything
becomes ok, it may feel inauthentic to be completely ok with the fact that
we are in the negative in our bank account yet we are sitting at a slot
machine gambling. But do you know why its ok? What Others are

Anything that happens is supposed to happen and in fact wouldnt be
happening unless there was a part of you and your higher self that has okd
it. This is the heart of true surrender, if its happening, no matter how painful
it is, or how much you wish it wasnt happening, but if it is happening then it
is ok. By deeming anything that naturally occurs as ok the ego no longer
has an enemy to judge or contend with. Now as weve learned before, the
ego needs something to judge in order to survive, which is precisely why
the ego is afraid to make decisions that cant be judged as wrong. The
minute everything becomes ok, the ego meets its demise, which is why
this step may be much harder to do than it seems. Be patient with yourself,
it wont happen overnight. Realize that some amount of suffering is
required Worry is one of the toughest things to surrender. We are so
conditioned to worry about our loved ones, health and finances, yet worry
only perpetuates the problem. The answer is always divine surrender and
trust. This allows grace to move into your life. ~ Kevin Fitzgerald Suffering
is often a catalyst for change. How do we know what we want if not to
experience time and again a reality which we have consciously decided we
do not want? The fact of the matter is we are trying to wake ourselves up
and our higher selves want so badly to step in and take over our lives for us
which it could do as long as we were not clinging on to the reins of our ship
so tightly with the limited belief system of I am in control of my life, my
thoughts, my actions, etc.. The more one believes in their own control over
their lives, the more suffering that is often required before surrender can
take place. If you are amidst pain and suffering in your own life it can only
be because a part of your ego is still clinging tightly to its power. And thats
ok. There will come a moment in your life, where life may knock you to your
knees in submission.

The Power of Positive Affirmations You can be the most beautiful person in
the world and everybody sees light and rainbows when they look at you,
but if you yourself dont know it, all of that doesnt even matter. ~ C.
JoyBell C. Positive affirmations were just a vague concept in my mind until I
read a very special article that made me start implementing this vital tool in
my life. The writer talked about how his mother would whisper positive
affirmations to him before bed, and how as an adult, he had to learn to
whisper them to himself and keep the positivity that she had introduced to
him. Now, not everyone has a parent who does this for them as a child, so
as an adult, its even more crucial to surround ourselves with positive
messages. What I learned from reading this article was so important to my
journey and my healing process. I knew the messages that I needed to
hear to be my healthiest self. I was aware enough to know what negative
beliefs were holding me back, and which healthy messages would
counteract them; but I forgot that it wasnt enough to just have this
knowledge in my mind, I had to implement it. I had been waiting for these
messages to magically come my way; as if my loved ones should
automatically sense what I needed as soon as I knew it. I couldnt control
the messages that were being given to me by the people in my life, but I
could control the messages that I gave to myself, and this made a world of
difference. After finishing the article, I sat down with a pen and paper to
follow the practice that he had suggested.

Have You Filled a Bucket Today? by Carol McCloud This wonderful book
for all ages goes through a seemingly complicated subject in an easy to
understand metaphor. Each person has a bucket, it explains, when it is full

we are happy, and when it is empty we feel sad. It shows how each person
(and child) can fill other peoples buckets or empty them by being nice or
mean to others. It even explains how people who try to empty buckets
usually have an empty bucket themselves, but by emptying others they are
still not filling theirs. This is a great book for children just starting on their
new school journey, or for every child with a kind heart. Children learn: The
concept of self-esteem and happiness levels that everyone has. They learn
how to be a bucket filler for other people by being kind and saying nice
things. You With The Stars in Your Eyes by Deepak Chopra This beautiful
and majestic story tells a deep and spiritual story of Cosmic
Consciousness. When five year old Tara asks her grandfather about love
and life, the moon herself comes down to explain to her how they are all a
part of the same universe, acting as mirrors for the stars above. A
wonderful conversation-starter book to share with your inquisitive
children.

tricky little thing, you feed it with negative thoughts, it will keep consuming
them until it explodes. On the other hand, if you feed it with positive
thoughts and intentions, it ponders. Its reluctant to change its old ways and

Chakra It took me a long time to accept the death of my father and the
subsequent depressive state of my mother when I was a teenager. I use to
refrain from talking about it to my friends, some didnt even know about it,
until much later on. One of the main reason was that whenever I spoke
about it, I would end up crying and this also led to bottling up of feelings.
The key here is acceptance of any situation, no matter how heart-rending
or painfully agonizing it is. Once you accept it, you arent in a state of denial
and not simply suppressing your emotions and feelings. Embrace it, give it
some love, nurture thoughts that will help your emotional growth, for the
simple reason: shit happens. 2) Spend time alone There are times when
alone is the best place to be. ~ Unknown Dont run away from yourself or
distract yourself by going out with friends or indulging in different sensory
pleasures. This might seem to help in that moment, but its not a permanent
fix. You are simply chasing your thoughts or procrastinating from facing the
challenges/difficult times head on. There are many who fear facing
themselves, how can you fear your own self or fear your own thoughts?
Fear is the cause of lot of pain, anger or frustration. Of course its not easy. I
have realised that challenges makes you a stronger person its a process
that unfolds slowly and gradually. Let it unfold! Hold your fears by the neck,
twist it, bend it, thrash it or do whatever it takes to end its power over you.
Spending time alone will give you the space to get a better grip on the
situation. Declutter your mind and Ive always said, a heavy dose of nature

Your sacred space is where you can find yourself again and again. ~
Joseph Campbell Rituals neednt be religious in
nature; it is that sacred time you devote solely
to yourself in a sacred space (if you like to call
that). Burning sacred herbs, tratak meditation
(gazing at a small object or candle flame),
mindful living, meditation, yoga, chanting,
gardening, earthing, and so on can help you to
heal those suppressed emotions. It will keep you calmer and gain better
mental clarity on the current situation. I find practising yoga, gardening,
nature walks and grounding extremely nourishing and beneficial for my
soul; although I still have my bad days. What the heck, we arent perfect! 4)
Heart-to-heart conversations We cultivate love when we allow our most
vulnerable and powerful selves to be deeply seen and known, and when
we honor the spiritual connection that grows from that offering with trust,
respect, kindness and affection. ~ Bren Brown Having a heart-to-heart
talk with anyone you resonate with at a deeper level be it your loved one,
friend, therapist can put you back on track. Problems arise when you are
unable to express your true feelings freely; speak your heart and mind with
people (close to you or the ones you are comfortable with). Cry your eyes
out if you wish crying also is a form of cleansing and relieves you from
pain. I cherish honest conversations with people I am comfortable with,
whats the point of shallow talks? The real essence of communication or
connecting with another person lies in the ability to open up and bare your
soul, and you realise that it isnt so bad after all. It can help you change
your perception during troubled times; if only you are able to talk about it in
the first place. What Others are Reading : Why Judgment and Criticism is

constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest
accomplishment. ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson Most importantly, all of the
above would be of no use, if you dont believe in yourself. If I didnt believe
in myself that I would be able to overcome my fathers death or my
mothers state of mind, I would have been a hopeless victim of my
circumstances. Believe that there is nothing so difficult to get your grip
around. Love yourself first and be honest to your own feelings. Most
people do not listen with the intent to understand; they listen with the intent
to reply. ~ Stephen R. Covey. Wouldnt it be a better place if all spoke with
the intention to listen? We all have stories to share, stories that has made
us who we are today, whats your story?

If You Meet the Buddha on the Road, Kill Him Blurred Path to
Enlightenment Like they say in Zen, when you attain Satori, nothing is left
for you in that moment than to have a good laugh. Alan Watts The title of
this article is a koan attributed to a 1st century Zen Master named Linji
Yixuan. Its obviously not meant to be taken literally, since killing is wrong.
Its a koan with shock-value, meant to jar us awake, a tool meant for selfexploration and self-interrogation. In this article we will attempt to dissect
this curious koan and try to bring some clarity to it so that we can use it as
a tool toward our own self-development. The road is generally meant to
symbolize the path to enlightenment. But it could also be interpreted as our
own personal path, or even something as simple as the direction our life is
going. The Buddha we meet on the path is our idealized image of
perfection, whatever that might be. Its our conception of what absolute
enlightenment would look like. One could argue that the Buddha on the
path is us, or at least our projection onto the world about what it means to
be Buddha. But, and heres the rub, whatever our conception of the
Buddha is, its wrong! Like it says in the opening of the Tao Te Ching, The
Tao that can be named is not the eternal Tao. What were killing is the
idea that enlightenment is achievable. If we believe we have achieved
enlightenment then we need to kill that belief and keep meditating. This is
because there is no permanence. Permanence is an illusion. Everything is
constantly changing. Travel Well Even if we think we have all the answers,
those answers must still be questioned. This is the urgency inherent
within the koan. A true master achieves enlightenment, kills it, and then
keeps meditating. He or she does so in order to keep learning, to keep
enlightening. Indeed, to reinforce the journey truly being the thing.

Every master knows that we are all Buddha

disguised as the Self. We are all God in
hiding. Its just that some of us are playing the
victim and some of us are free. Like Alan
Watts asked, Do you define yourself as a
victim of the world, or as the world? Most of
us are walking tragedies, suffering in a cruel
world. We all experience pain. We all have
scars. But true masters flip the tables on
tragedy and choose comedy instead, thus
completely altering the power dynamic. They
choose happiness without reason. They
choose laughter and joy over anger and spite.
They honor their scars rather than resent
them. They choose dancing rather than
depression. And this is precisely where the Fool and the Sage merge,
where humor and wisdom coalesce. Up until the point we meet Buddha on
the road we are victims of the world, but once we kill the Buddha we
become the world. We become sacred clowns. We become holy fools, with
the power to keep the journey going despite wounds or set-backs or even
enlightenment itself! This is the wisdom of the Fool/Sage to fail (or
succeed), to let go, to have a good laugh, and then to start all over again
with our wisdom in tow. If you meet the Trickster on the path, kill it You
must change in order to find your truest self, writes Bradford Keeney in
The Bushmans Way of Tracking God. And keep changing. The false idol
is any form that hangs around too long and gets fossilized. Its worth
considering that if your ideas of God dont change, then your ideas are
dead. God is not dead. He simply went elsewhere because you were too
boring. Yes! God is us. Buddha is us.

Crossing into the Mysteries of the Cocoon Butterfly Effect In times of

suffering, when you feel abandoned, perhaps even annihilated, there is
occurring at levels deeper than your pain the entry of the sacred, the
possibility of redemption. Wounding opens the doors of our sensibility to a
larger reality, which is blocked to our habituated and conditioned point of
view. ~ Jean Houston There are moments in life when we are wounded so
deeply that it changes us forever, where we die and are reborn.
We abandon our old home to set out for a new one. We cross a bridge into
the unknown and theres no going back. Its a time of transformation, a
threshold that links our past self with our future self. In whatever way we go
about it, going through this threshold is a metamorphosis, a soul initiation.

At every
threshold we lose aspects of our self, but we also gain new aspects. Like a
caterpillar loses its caterpillar-nature but gains its butterfly-nature. Cocoon
Just as the forming butterfly cannot return to being a caterpillar, an
awakening human cannot return to being asleep, for we have lost our way
in the vastness of the cocoon and our wounds have been opened. Caught
in the throes of an existential threshold, a death-rebirth metamorphosis,
what Rollo May called a Time of Destiny, our pupal phase has come to an
end. The cocoon is a place where mistakes can become lessons and
missteps can become stepping stones. Its a place where we learn how to
recycle fear into courage and discover hope in the depths of despair. Like

Rumi said, When theres no sign of hope in the desert, so much hope still
lives inside despair. Heart, dont kill that hope. But are we ready to emerge
as adults, as wiser versions of ourselves? Are we ready to shed our old
clumsy armor for new vulnerable skin?

Life is What We Learn, Life is What We Teach You are only a disciple
because your eyes are closed. The day you open them you will see there is
nothing you can learn from me or anyone. What then is a Master for? To
make you see the uselessness of having one. ~ Anthony de Mello We are
all teachers, just as we are all students; life is what we teach, and life is
what we learn. The wise understand this. Genuine students are open to
understanding this. Both are needed for the cycle of mastery to remain a
sacred cycle, rather than a degradation into base linearity. The problem is
awareness, or the lack thereof. Most of us are not aware that we are both
teachers and students. The majority of us move through life in tiny comfort
zones, paranoid and fearful about having our precious beliefs and/or
worldviews questioned. We are content to remain the loyal subject of a tiny
god. Like Carl Sagan powerfully said, How is it that hardly any major
religion has looked at science and concluded, This is better than we
thought! The Universe is much bigger than our prophets said, grander,
more subtle, more elegant. Instead they say, No, no, no! My god is a little

god, and I want him to stay that way. Oh the delicious tragicomedy of it
all. But how can we expect to learn anything if we are not first willing to be
vulnerable? How can we truly understand anything if we arent willing to get
down to the nitty-gritty and really question things?

How can we learn something if were not willing to allow the defensive
ramparts that surround our comfort zone to come crashing down so that it
can be rebuilt further on, broader, less defensive, and even more robust
than before? And how can we expect our tiny god the one that barely
governs a tiny portion of our brains within a tiny portion of our culture within
a tinier portion of our planet within an even tinier portion of our galaxy
within an infinitely tinier portion of our universe to ever become the Big
God that is able to subsume infinity, if were never really willing to let that
god be infinite? There may not be an answer. But at least we have
questions to play with. Or maybe its as simple as taking into consideration
these words by Alan Watts: Man suffers only because he takes seriously
what the gods made for fun.

Life is what we learn He who cannot bear doubt does not bear himself.
Such a one is doubtful; he does not grow and hence he does not live.
Doubt is the sign of the strongest and the weakest. The strong have doubt,
but doubt has the weak. ~ Carl Jung Doubt is a thorny concept. Were
typically torn between wanting to seem confident to others, and wanting to
be open minded enough to learn from them. Perhaps the best way to
navigate through the brambles of doubt is to simply remember to use doubt
as a tool toward leveraging knowledge, instead of becoming a tool to doubt,
which merely compounds ignorance. Another strategy is to keep in
consideration two things: these words by Bill Nye, everyone you will ever
meet knows something you dont, and these words from Carl Sagan,
Somewhere something incredible is waiting to be known. These two
concepts alone can make us better students. Or consider Richard Ogles
explanation of reach & reciprocity; where one begins with the core

knowledge in a field, then ventures out and learns something new, then
they come back and reintegrate the new morsel with what is already
known. Then they venture out again, back and forth, again and again. Too
much reciprocity and you wind up in an insular rut. Too much reach and
your efforts are scattershot and fruitless (Ogle). Whats needed, it seems,
is a healthy balance of expansion and integration. The breakthrough, of
course, is the realization that learning is not linear, but exceptionally
cyclical. We stretch, we learn; we retract, we integrate. We stretch further,
we learn more; we retract, we integrate further. And the cycle continues.
With enough reach and reciprocity the cycle becomes a cycle of mastery. If
life is truly what we learn, then it behooves us to seek and find mentors that
can teach us about life. Our mentors become the giants whose shoulders
we stand upon. And since everyone has something to teach, anyone can
be a mentor, and thus anyone can be the giant whose shoulder we stand
upon. If we master what they have to teach, well be able to see further and
farther than they did. If we dont master what they have to teach, we can at
least assimilate their knowledge and move one smartly. Like Robert
Greene succinctly put it, Choose the mentor who best fits your needs and
connects to your Lifes Task. Once you have internalized their knowledge,
you must move on and never remain in their shadow. Your goal is always to
surpass your mentors in mastery and brilliance.

Life is what we teach I do not believe that sheer suffering teaches. If
suffering alone taught, all the world would be wise, since everyone suffers.
To suffering must be added mourning, understanding, patience, love,
openness and the willingness to remain vulnerable. ~ Anne Morrow
Lindbergh True mastery is not mastering others; its mastering our former
self. We all know this to be true, to a certain extent, but we also struggle
with the cultural conditioning that competition trumps cooperation. It
doesnt. Or at least it shouldnt. Cooperation must be primary and
competition secondary for any healthy evolution to occur. Whether that
evolution is learning, teaching, or living. The basis of nature is cooperation
and democracy. Its in our DNA. It can be seen in every organism from ants
to primates. Indeed, even in The Descent of Man, Darwin mentioned
survival of the fittest exactly twice, and he mentioned the word love 95
times. Let that sink in for a second. Competition has always been
secondary to cooperation; otherwise we wouldnt have survived as a
species. The problem is that weve had the cart (competition) in front of the
horse (cooperation) for roughly 2,000 years. And we see, first-hand, the

unhealthy state were in because of it. Theres nothing wrong with

competition, mind you. Its still primary over everything else other than
cooperation. But when we focus too much on competition we lose sight of
the importance of self-mastery. And there is this dangerous tendency to try
and master others instead. But its always better if we focus on mastering
ourselves rather than others. As I wrote at the beginning of this article, its
all a matter of awareness. Like Leonardo da Vinci said, The average
human looks without seeing, listens without hearing, touches without
feeling, eats without tasting and talks without thinking. A wise human
realizes the difference between looking and seeing, listening and hearing,
touching and feeling, eating and tasting, and talking and thinking. A wise
human also realizes the difference between mastering others and
mastering the self. Self-mastery is the ability to self-overcome, to
consistently and persistently ward off the master complex. The master
complex is the false notion that weve somehow learned all we need to
learn about a certain subject or even about life. Its the idea that our
expertise will suffice, and that nobody else can teach us anything. What
Others are Reading : 8 Signs You Are the Designer of Your Life Like
Kathryn Schulz said, Ignorance isnt necessarily a vacuum waiting to be
filled; just as often, it is a wall, actively maintained. Sadly, it spells the end
of our journey of knowledge. Beginner-mind begets expert-mind begets
master-complex which must be destroyed by beginner-mind in order to
renew the cycle and in order to recycle the mastery. Recycling the mastery
is the best way to self-overcome and to master our former self. And it keeps
knowledge cyclical as opposed to linear. At the end of the day, there is no
such thing as a true master. Were all ignorant about something. Socrates
realized that no one was wiser than he because no one understood their
ignorance as well as he did. As Shakespeare imparted, The fool doth think
he is wise, but the wise man knows himself to be a fool. Indeed, we are all
ignorant, but the smart thing is to become wise to it. The closest we can get
to being a true master is understanding that there will always be something
we dont know, and some things we can never know, and then laugh about
it. In the end, cultivating a good sense of humor is probably the closest well
ever get to true mastery. Like Alan Watts said, When you attain Satori,
nothing is left for you in that moment than to have a good laugh. Image

every morning, and every night before I went to sleep. I looked into myself
and saw the negative messages that I had been telling myself, or hearing

from others, and I wrote a positive affirmation to counter each one. This is
what I ended up writing: 1) I am capable. 2) I am supported by loved ones.
3) I am able to be productive and inspired. 4) I am safe. 5) The world is a
beautiful place. Some people may feel an emotional connection to these if
they are dealing with negative beliefs that are similar to those I had been
dealing with. Each one held such weight for me because they were things
that I was struggling to believe, but were being blocked by the negative
messages that were saying the exact opposite. And so, I put these
weightful words up by my bed. And each day, I would look at this paper and
say these things to myself. Im not sure exactly when my beliefs switched
over, but through a gradual yet completely self-changing process, they did.
And now looking at these affirmations, I know that I believe each one fully
and without a trace of doubt. I am capable. I am supported by loved ones. I
am able to be productive and inspired. I am safe. And, the world is a
beautiful place. These are my truths now, through thick and thin, they are a
part of my inner belief system. Thats my experience with positive
affirmations. And its had more of an impact than I can even begin to grasp.
Because once these beliefs became a part of me, I started acting with
these beliefs. I began more projects and volunteered for more jobs
because I believed that I was capable of doing them. What Others are

chances because I knew that I was supported, and not alone as I believed
before. I wasnt tentative with my creativity because I knew I had the ability

being happy because my inner beliefs told me that the world was actually a
beautiful and wonderful place, and not a world working against me. Every
person can benefit from switching over their negative beliefs to positive. If
you are reading this, take a piece of paper, and write down five positive
affirmations, and put it somewhere that you will remain aware of it. You will
thank yourself when you realize how much positivity was allowed into your
life because of it. If you dont know where to start, here are a few
suggestions to get you started. If you feel emotionally connected, or if you
feel a pang of sadness that youve never gotten this message, then write it
down along with any others you can think of. I am loved. I love and accept
myself. I am beautiful. I am seen for who I am. I am strong. I am able to
change my life for the better. I have infinite wisdom inside me. I am able to
be happy and fulfilled. I am capable of anything I put my mind to. I am
smart. I am good. I have a positive influence on those around me. I hope
that these affirmations can get you started, or give you an idea of what you
want to write. If you connect to any of these, please use them on your
paper, but try to also add some of your own, because the ones that come

from yourself will truly be the antithesis of your inner negative beliefs and
will therefore have the most effect on your life. Remember that this is a tool:
a means to an end, and that end is loving yourself for exactly who you are.

emotional connection to these if they are dealing with negative beliefs that
are similar to those I had been dealing with. Each one held such weight for
me because they were things that I was struggling to believe, but were
being blocked by the negative messages that were saying the exact
opposite. And so, I put these weightful words up by my bed. And each day,
I would look at this paper and say these things to myself. Im not sure
exactly when my beliefs switched over, but through a gradual yet
completely self-changing process, they did. And now looking at these
affirmations, I know that I believe each one fully and without a trace of
doubt. I am capable. I am supported by loved ones. I am able to be
productive and inspired. I am safe. And, the world is a beautiful place.
These are my truths now, through thick and thin, they are a part of my inner
belief system. Thats my experience with positive affirmations. And its had
more of an impact than I can even begin to grasp. Because once these

beliefs became a part of me, I started acting with these beliefs. I began
more projects and volunteered for more jobs because I believed that I was
capable of doing them. What Others are Reading : Four Genuine Acts of
Immanence I could venture out and take chances because I knew that I
was supported, and not alone as I believed before. I wasnt tentative with
my creativity because I knew I had the ability to be both inspired and
productive at the same time. I was able to embrace being happy because
my inner beliefs told me that the world was actually a beautiful and
wonderful place, and not a world working against me. Every person can
benefit from switching over their negative beliefs to positive. If you are
reading this, take a piece of paper, and write down five positive
affirmations, and put it somewhere that you will remain aware of it. You will
thank yourself when you realize how much positivity was allowed into your
life because of it.
