Balancing Sports and Academics in High School

I take pride in my ability to balance sports, schoolwork, and social activities throughout high school. As a cheerleader and track athlete, I had to go to school for 8 hours, then practice until 8:30 pm, finding time after for homework, dinner, and sleep to maintain a 3.8 GPA. While continuing cheerleading, I also volunteered at a hospital and mentored underclassmen, gaining over 250 hours of community service and a presidential award. Being involved in school, sports, and my community has helped me achieve much while in high school.

Pride Sample

Something that I take pride in is the way that I have been able to balance my life
throughout high school with sports, school work, and my social life. In the beginning of my high
school career, I was part of the cheerleading team, and part of track and field. Being a part of
these teams while being in school at the same time taught me how to balance multiple things at
once. Every day I would go to school for 8 hours, then go to practice until around 8:30 at night.
When I got home, thats when I would have to find the time to eat dinner, shower and complete
all of my homework to try and go to bed at a reasonable time every night. At the beginning it
was hard, but as time went on, it only got harder. Throughout all of my freshman year, I was
able to keep a GPA of 3.8. Over the next few years, I continued to do cheerleading. Its a year
round sport, and Ive continued to keep my GPA up at a 3.8 all this time. When Im not in school
or doing sports, I am involved in many other extra curricular activities. For example, I
volunteered at the local hospital over the summer of my senior year, and I was a LINK
leader/mentor during my sophomore and junior year. Doing all of those activities for the
community has helped me to get 266 hours worth of community service, and Ive also received
a Silver Presidential Service Award for having over 100 hours. Being involved in these programs
have benefited me greatly, and I am so proud of everything Ive achieved.
