Revolution in information and communication technology (ICT) has made a remarkable impact on

the society. Countries across the world are using ICT to facilitate information dissemination and
communication in all areas of education, training, and administration. In Indian education
institutions, over the years there has been a rapid increase in the gross enrollment ratio (GER).
The existing manpower in universities is unable to cope with the increased workload. To bring
efficiency, accuracy, and transparency to the system, many Indian universities are using ICT in
teaching, learning, and administration processes, and management of examination system is one
of them. In addition to sharing information and infinite access, ICT has exposed certain security
threats that were exposed by connecting to a large network. This paper discusses the importance
of an automated integrated examination system in Indian universities vis-a-vis security threats.
These threats can thwart the very purpose of ICT if left unattended. The measures to handle
data are discussed, and network architecture is suggested to handle the examination of data to
preclude security threats.

Abstract. Today the changes of the test mode are common. Many exams have adopted computer test, so the reform
of text mode will be a trend in universities. Based on the working practice, the paper showed a project about the
reform. It improves the works efficiency greatly. Introduction The school will make a final written at the end of
each semester. The whole process of examination involves a lot of things. Such as test paper printing, examination
room arrangement, papers review, analysis of test paper and so on. So it is a very complicated job and easy to make
mistake. The traditional mode of examination makes the whole process too hard and wastes too many resources. The
working efficiency is very low. With the development of computer and network, the computers have been used in
teaching. So the network examination is possible. In order to improve the quality of teaching, realize public and
fairness of the examination, reduce the teachers burden, it is imperative to use a new kind of high efficient and fast
network examination. Network examination system is divided into two categories: one is based on the C/S network,
the other is based on the B/S network. C/S network exam system is usually used to make a single subjects test and
must install the client first. But the B/S network examination system is very flexible. It can organize the examination
according to the requirements. As long as the student has a browser, he can join the exam by network. The paper
discussed the network examination system. By using this system the teachers can organize the examination and
manage test scores by the computer. Realization of exam system The module of exam system has great significance.
A good system has a clear structure and is easy to use. The links between two modules should be lesser as far as
possible, but the more closely contact in one module the better. According to the independence principle of module
division, it is better to less the coupling and increase cohesion. It must improve the reuse of module code and
reasonably plot the size of the module. In the light of requirement analysis the system is composed of six main parts.
The system structure is shown in figure1. User rights management: This module mainly distinguishes the role
among different users. Different users have different rights. The users in the system fall into two kinds, the teacher is
mainly responsible for the students information management, item pool management, score management. Students
can only take part in extracting examination paper and carry out the exam. Students information management: This
module is used to manage the information of students, such as ID, name and so on. Item pool and test paper
management: This part is the root of the network exam system. The key problem is how to make sure of the
rationality of test questions, scientificity of the structure. It is important to fit test questions together automatically:

Technology can change the way students think, learn and revolutionize, says the Chief Executive Officer on
Education and Technology (Courte, 2005). Technology also calls for broadening the definition of student
achievement to include digital-age literacy, inventive thinking, effective communication and high productivity-skills
necessary for students to thrive in the 21st century. According to the report, technology can help deliver significant
results when combine with other key factors known to increase achievement, such as clear, measurable objectives;
parental and community involvement; increase time spent on task; frequent feedback; and the teachers subjectmatter expertise.
In this age of computers, many educators see it as inevitable that students will someday learn in classrooms without
walls, desks, or face-to-face contact with teachers. The gradual degeneration of the conventional examination system
manifested in frequent leakage of question papers, manipulation of marks, copying and use of unfair means by all
involved (administration not ruled out). This conventional examination system was also referred to as paper-and-

pencil tests. This is a fixed-item test in which the student and/or examinee answer the same questions. Fixed-item
test waste students time because they give students a large number of items that are either too easy or too difficult.
As a result, the tests give little information about the particular level of ability of each student. With recent
advancement in measurement theory and the increased availability of microcomputers in schools, the practice of
using electronic examination system may change. Computerized tests may replace paper-and-pencil tests in some
instances.
These scenarios triggered the researchers to conduct and Electronic Qualifying Examination that would be beneficial
to the College of Science. The system being studied would facilitate the systematic storage, updating and retrieval of
pertinent examinee data as well as checking and scoring of examinee answers to test questions. It is also able to
generate reports of ratings and statistics of the test scores. However, it does not monitor the users actions and event
to block the users.
Statement of the Problem
Generally, this study sought to determine the operations and performance of an Electronics Qualifying Examination
System Compared with the traditional qualifying examination procedure and process.
Specifically, it endeavored to answer the following questions: 1. What are the existing problems being encountered
on the current conventional qualifying examination? 2. What will be the design of an electronic qualifying
examination system in terms of the following: 2.1 Process;
2.2 Data;
2.3 Language;
3. What is the level of acceptability of the proposed system in the College of Science?
Objective of the Study
In general, this study aimed to determine the performance and operation of an Electronic Qualifying Examination
System compare with the current qualifying examination procedure and process.
In particular, it envisioned to:
1. Determine the existing problems being encountered on the current conventional qualifying examination; 2.
Design an Electronic Qualifying Examination System in terms of the following. 2.1 Process;
2.2 Data;
2.3 Language; and,
3. Ascertain the level of acceptability of the proposed system in the College of Science.
Scope and Limitation of the Study
This study was conducted in the College of Science, University of Eastern Philippines. It is limited only to the
performance of the specified functions such as scheduling, the actual examination and the retrieval of the
examination results. It is meant to assist the users, especially the examination personnel to meet the needs of the
students or applicants.

so manual conduction of examination is always tiresome and cumbersome. All these problems can be solved by
automating the examination system so as for instructors to conduct the examination systematically. By
computerizing the examination system, the examinations are conducted smoothly, error free and systematically.
Definition of the Topic
The Automated Examination System is an application that establishes a network between the institutes and the
students. The instructor will enter the questions they want which are more on objective type into the application.
These questions are displayed as a test to the eligible students. The answers enter by the students are then evaluated
and their score is calculated and saved. This score then can be accessed by the instructors to determine the students
who passed or to evaluate their performance. Moreover, the application must have an administrator who keeps an
