- Opacifier pearly look to shampoo
Cream Shampoo
- Opaque & viscous
- Mixture of SLS & Soap which makes the shampoo more viscous
*SLS is in dry form while SLES is in semi-liquid form
Components of Shampoo
1. Surfactants reduce surface tension (eg. water tension, grease)
2. Foam builders foam stabilizer. Increasing quality, volume and stability
3. Conditioning agent moisturizes and lubricates the hair for better slip and smoothness
a. Lanolin, glycerol, PEG, isopropyl myristate
4. Opacifying agent importance for cream and lotion shampoo
a. Higher alcohol (stearyl and cetyl), higher acids (behenic acid)
5. Clarifying agents solubilizing agents help maintain shampoos clarity over a wide range of temperature;
should be checked for possible eye irritation
a. Butyl alcohol, isopropyl alcohol, propylene glycol, terpineol, diethylene glycol, diethyl alcohol
6. Sequestering agent prevents lime soap formation by:
1. Formation of insoluble calcium or magnesium salts when mixed with hard water
2. Precipitation of lime soap film on the hair when the shampoo is rinsed with hard
water
