Democracy allows citizens to rule through any form of government they choose and make decisions that reflect the will of the majority. True democratic citizens not only enjoy rights and freedoms, but also take seriously the responsibilities of living democratically like open communication, mass participation, upholding human dignity, respecting rights of others, working for the common good, and having responsibility for other people. The rule of law restricts arbitrary exercise of power by subordinating it to established laws. Political equality means everyone is treated the same in the political sphere and gets equal treatment under the law.
