DISCIPLINARY ACTIONS

ADMONISHMENT - period of 14 days from its issuance. (( 28 days if OOC. ))


OFFICIAL REPRIMAND - period of 14 days from issuance. (( 28 days if OOC. ))
REVOCATION OF VEHICLE RIGHTS ---------------SUSPENSION - period of 28 days from issuance. (( 28 days if OOC. ))
DEMOTION/DOWNGRADE - period of 28 days from issuance. (( 28 days if OOC. ))
FINAL WARNING - throughout the entirety of its duration only
TERMINATION OF EMPLOYMENT

WARRANT-LESS ENTRY
probable cause = suspect has entered a private property / Hot Pursuit.
probable cause = person is at risk / to protect their life.
probable cause = Crime ongoing.
(Captain+ for Warrant)

TERRY STOP
Terry Stop = detainment of a person based on reasonable suspicion.
Individual has committed, is committing or is about to commit a crime
Specific and articulable facts, depends on circumstances, combination of
facts
Up to 30 minutes for questioning

TERRY FRISK
Terry frisk = based on reasonable suspicion (additional suspicion)
Can be only used = suspicion, that a suspect is armed and dangerous (safety)
Limited protective search for weapons of the outer clothing of an individual
Specific and articulable facts (no hunch)

SEARCHES AND SEIZURES


Procedure= search through an individual's body or property. (crime has been
committed)
-> confiscate any relevant evidence to the crime.
Recording devices: sufficient probable cause, device holds evidence

PARTIAL- / FULL STRIP SEARCHES / BODY CAVITY SEARCH


> Requires probable cause. Arrest, search. <
Partial: Subject's shoes, coat and jacket, removal of belt and the untucking of the
shirt.
Full Strip: (private area) removal of the subject's shirt, trousers and underwear.
Body vacity Search: (private area) mouth, vagina, anus

REASONABLE SUSPICION
Reasonable suspicion is a legal standard of proof / Less than probable cause
Person has committed, is committing, or is going to commit a crime.
More than a hunch
Based on "specific and articulable facts",
Depends upon the totality of circumstances, result from a combination of particular
facts.
Allows you to stop and detain a person. (may be involved in criminal activity for brief
investigations)
(suspicious movements by the suspect / fitting a description provided by a police
officer / fitting a description provided by a reliable witness / being present on scene of
a crime / riot / or major public disturbance / fleeing from the scene of a crime )

PROBABLE CAUSE
Reasonable belief that someone has committed a crime
High crime areas, past convictions, deception, visible signs, nervous gestures,
personal Private involvement, and non-compliance
Right to arrest, or search a person without a warrant
Given enough evidence in the field

LEVELS OF FORCE
Lethal Force (Firearms)
Non-Lethal Force (Batons, tasers, bean bag rounds)
Hard Hands (Punches and kicks) and CS Spray (Pepper Spray)
Soft Hands (Grabs and holds)
Verbal Commands
Presence

CPR (Courtesy, Professionalism, Respect)
