role and integrating role? Which of these provides the greatest amount of
horizontal coordination?
Task force is something that is being organized for some temporary tasks that involves
several departments. Each department provides representatives that will represent interests of
its department in task force. Task forces are effective in horizontal linkage device for
temporary matters. Task forces are solving problems by direct horizontal coordination and
downsizing the information load on the vertical hierarchy. After solving problem task force
gets disband.
Teams are permanent group of employers that are working on various tasks. They are often
used in conjunction with a full-time integrator. There can be possibility of cross-functional
team when departments are in need for strong coordination over a long time period.
Liaison role is task for person that is connecting different sorts of expertnesses between two
departments. That person needs to connect and achieve communication and coordination
between for example engineering and development.
Integrating role. Integrators are located outside the departments and have responsibility for
coordinating several departments. Integrator can be responsible for developing design,
financing, and marketing of a new product. Usually integrators have a lot of responsibility but
lack of authority. They need to use expertise and persuasion to achieve coordination, they
must be able to get people from different departments together, maintain their trust, confront
problems, resolve conflicts and disputes in the interest of the organization.
Teams are providing the greatest amount of horizontal coordination, because they are
permanent, strongest and most solid structure in competition.
