a) Describe the role of the Prevention Plan of your vessels SMS


The role of our vessels Prevention plan is to minimize the risk of hazard during work.
To make it safety the crew must be familiar with prevention plan and all the preventive
actions which are to be taken in case of accident. Risk assessment cards must be also
performed and attached to this prevention plan.

b) Describe the content of a typical briefing taking place before starting an


operation either on deck, in the engine room or on an electrical circuit.
Before starting operations each person must be familiar with the work to be carried out
and equipments necessary to perform the activity in safety (PPE, lifting equipment, tools ...).
Risk Assessment shall be used whenever necessary, including for planning unusual tasks and
for tasks when risk is assessed as medium or high on a company level.

c) For the two topics you have chosen, highlight the specific care to be
considered and how it will be put into operation

First Topic: Lifeboats davits


Lifeboats davits are designed for boarding the lifeboat from embarkation platform at
stowed position. It consists of a cradle, frame, sling block and lashing device which fix the
boat. Lifeboat is launched by lifting a brake handle which allows davits to swing out, plumb
over the side of the ship. Gripes must be secured to prevent boats falling, turning when boat

is in stowed position and harbor pins to be secured to prevent boats loss. All crew members
must familiarize with lifeboat gears and launching procedure.

Second Topic: Enclosed Spaces


Before entering enclosed spaces competent person must be sure that the conditions are
good and all the actions to be taken are made (pre-entry preparations, pre-entry checks,
breathing and all the other equipment is worn and works properly). He must have special
permit to work from responsible person (the Master, Chief Officer or Chief Engineer).Good
communication with person which is inside. After each operation in enclosed space it must be
recorded in Deck Log Book, also time in, time out and completion of job.
