Percentile, also called centile or percentage, is a measure used in statistics to indicate the value below which a given percentage of observations in a data set fall. It describes the relative standing of a data point by showing what percentage of values are below that point. Quartiles divide data into four equal parts, with the first quartile being the 25th percentile, second quartile the 50th percentile (median), third quartile the 75th percentile. Probability values correspond to areas under the normal curve, with z-scores indicating distances from the mean and tables providing areas or probabilities. Z-scores to the left of the mean are negative.
