To set the timer for a length of time, use the "up/down" arrows beside the hours, minutes, and seconds display to increment or
decrement the digits shown. You can also type directly into these spaces to enter the desired time. If you have particular lengths of
time that you think you will use frequently, you can save them in the "Preset countdown times" menu by setting the time, then clicking
"Add currently set time as preset" in the Tools menu (accessed by clicking the "gear" button on the toolbar). You can then click that
time in the "Preset times" sub-menu (also under the Tools menu) to automatically set the timer for that time next time you need it.
You can also access saved preset times by right-clicking on any one of the time selectors (hours, minutes, or seconds) or any button
on the toolbar.
If you're using more than one instance of the program to time different things, you can label each instance of the to remind you what
each one is being used to time by clicking the "Label.." menu in the Tools menu and typing some text in the dialog box that opens
and then clicking "OK". This places that text in the program's title bar.
Once you've set a desired length of time, click the "Start" button on the toolbar or press Enter on your keyboard to start the
countdown.
The timer can be paused as it is counting down by clicking the "Pause" button on the toolbar or pressing Enter on your keyboard. The
timer can be reset to whatever time you started with by clicking the "Reset" button on the toolbar or pressing Esc on your keyboard.
Once the set time expires, the alarm will sound. If you have the alarm set to loop indefinitely, you can stop it by clicking the "Alarm
off" button on the toolbar or pressing the space bar on your keyboard. If you have selected the option to show the scrolling marquee
message when time expires, it will be displayed also. Closing the marquee window will silence the alarm automatically.
You can also have the program run any amount of predefined tasks when the time expires by specifying them in the countdown alarm
preferences accessed by clicking the "Tools" button (gear) on the toolbar and then clicking "Countdown alarm" on the menu.

You can configure several options for the countdown timer alarm including selecting a built-in sound, sound file, etc. by clicking
"Countdown alarm..." from the "Tools" menu when in Countdown mode. Pictured below is a graphical representation of the
countdown alarm options panel. Click an area of the image for help on that particular feature.

Cool Timer's visualization feature lets you see the passage of time in countdown mode when the timer is counting down by displaying
an image of your choice and either revealing or erasing the image in a radial sweep pattern which is synchronized with the timer. This
is useful for young children who are not yet familiar with the concept of time passage in a digital sense to see graphically how much
time is left on the timer. You can access this feature by clicking "Visualization" in the "Tools" menu which is accessible by clicking the
gear button on the main program toolbar. You can specify whether to have the image revealed or erased as the timer counts down in
the program's preferences dialog.
The visualization screen can be right-clicked to display a menu of commands. From this menu, you can select a different image, hide
the borders of the window so that only the image is shown, specify whether or not the window stays "on top" of all other windows, or
close the window. If you choose to hide the window border, the image can be moved around your screen by left-clicking anywhere on
the image, holding the button down and dragging. Of course, the window can only be resized if the border is shown.

Alarm Clock

To use the program in alarm clock mode, click the "Mode" menu at the bottom-right in the program window or in the tools menu which
is accessible by clicking the "gear" button on the toolbar and select "Alarm Clock".
Multiple alarms can be created in the program. To create an alarm, click the "Create alarm" button (plus sign) on the toolbar to open
the "Create Alarm" dialog.

bottom that allows you to specify whether or not you want the changes applied only to the next instance of the alarm or to every
instance (if you have it set to repeat weekly).

Managing Alarms

The image below depicts the program's "Manage Alarms" dialog.
Click the Add button (plus sign) to open the Create Alarm dialog and add a new alarm.
To enable or disable an existing alarm, for example, on a holiday, check or un-check the box in the "Enabled" column.

Select an existing alarm and click the Edit button (pencil) to edit properties of that alarm.
Select an existing alarm and click the Clone button to open the create alarm dialog with all of the same properties already
configured just like the selected alarm. This is an easy way to create multiple alarms with similar properties quickly.
Select an existing alarm and click the Delete (X) button to delete it.
When you are finished managing alarms, click the green check button to save your changes and close the dialog.

Stopwatch

To use the program in stopwatch mode, click "Mode" in the menu bar and then select "Stopwatch" from the menu. Click the start
button to start the stopwatch. Time is measured to the hundredth of a second. To get lap time. click the pause button. The large digit
display stops at that time but the main timer keeps counting in the background and the total elapsed time is shown in the status bar.
Click the start button or the pause button again to continue timing in the large digit display. Click the stop button to stop the timer.
Click the reset button to reset the timer to zero. If you need to copy the time displayed to the Windows Clipboard, right-click the time
digits and click "Copy" from the menu that pops up..

Full Screen Digits

When using full screen digits in the program, you can control the timers in different modes by using the main program window, then
hide the main window whenever you only want to view the digits. You can also control some features of the timers using shortcut
keys on your keyboard while the main window is hidden. The shortcut keys for different modes are listed below.

Adjusting Window Opacity

The opacity of the main program window can be adjusted when it has "focus" by rolling the mouse cursor forward or backward. This
is useful if you have selected the option to keep the program window on top of all others but would still like to be able to see whatever
is behind the program window. You can also hold down "Ctrl" on the keyboard and press either the "+" or "-" button to vary the degree
of opacity.
