How will these new developments affect you? Hopefully this is good news because the
Free Assessment Services processing time for new cases will be now down to 6-12 months!!
Services for Newcomers A new immigration bill C50 designed and intended to reduce backlogs in the immigration
system was finally passed by Parliament on June 18, 2008.
This has important bearing on persons who received immigration file numbers before
February 27, 2008 and for those who received it after this date.
Photos & Videos Those who submitted an application before February 27, 2008 - will continue to be
(Under company profile?) processed under the old system. Hopefully the backlog will stop growing and finally start
coming down. Currently the wait time for processing cases is around 5 years.
What’s New (is this required?) All applications submitted on or after February 27, 2008, if not processed in a given year can
be held for future consideration or returned with a full refund to the applicant, who will be
welcome to reapply at another time. The Minister has now been given the authority to issue
FAQ (is this required?) instructions to immigration officers on the processing of applications, including with regard to
jobs available in Canada, so that people with those skills and experience can be brought to
Contact Us Canada more quickly. The Minister’s instructions will apply to categories of applicants, not
individuals. The categories which stand a good chance of being approved have still not been
released but it is expected to be out very soon. (can highlighted text go into a balloon?)
The new law is intended to stop the growth of the backlog of applicants so that, ultimately,
people who want to come to Canada receive a decision within 6 to 12 months instead of the
5-6 years it can take now.
The new law also more closely aligns Canada’s immigration system with labour shortages so
that immigrants who come to Canada will have more opportunities to find employment in
their chosen fields.
