Warm-up
Lead-in 1- Setting the
context
Rash ! T explains the rules of the game:
Teacher writes `cure` on all but one piece of
paper, and a disease (like `rash`) on just one.
Each player gets a piece of paper, but no-one
knows who`s got the disease. Then, students
should find out who has the disease by
interacting with each other and cure it by
tapping that person. The person who has the
disease keeps quiet about it until he is asked
about his paper and discovered by other
students. When they find that person, the
game is over.
The teacher shows postcards of some resorts
and cities (Belgrade, London, Corfu, Antalya,
Cairo etc.) to the students and a few letters.
Teacher asks the students what postcard they
like the most. He then asks them:
1. Have you ever written a letter or sent a
postcard to your friends from your
vacation?
2. If so, how many times and from where?
3. Do you like to receive postcards or
letters from your friends when they go
on a vacation?
4. DO you collect letters or postcards?

one may write an informal letter. Teacher
presents constructions which are used in
writing an informal letter or a postcard and
writes them on the board:

The teacher explains that while writing an
informal letter, pupils have to use informal
language, including idioms and slang (such as
pal, mate, innit, cool, fetchetc.), contracted
verb forms such as weve, Im etc., short
sentences, and fewer passive forms (I wrote a
letter instead of A letter was written by me).
Then the teacher tells that pupils can also use
some linkers:
Anyway, Luckily, Fortunately, Unfortunately,
Actually, But, And, Well, So, Heres, Hopefully,
in the end, at last.
Then the teacher discusses the constructions
and asks pupils randomly to finish some of
the sentences and write on the board.

Then, the sentences stay on the board during
the whole class and that will help students to
complete the later tasks easily.

WRITING LESSON PLAN
The teacher tells the students that they
should do the exercise number 1 , on the
page 12, unit 1 (Students book). There is an
example of an informal letter, but the letter
contains a number of spelling, grammar and
vocabulary mistakes. Students should find
and then correct the mistakes. The number of
mistakes is indicated at the end of each
sentence.
The teacher gives students 4 minutes to finish
the task and then asks them randomly to read
the answers.
Then the teacher and students analyze the
structure and style. Teacher asks: Is it
written in the right style? Can you find some
of the constructions we have mentioned?"

their answers.
Freer practice
The teacher tells the students will write a short informal
letter to their friend about their last weekend and the
teacher will give them a list of orders that they need to
follow while writing the letter. Students should also use
the constructions and linkers written on the board. The
teacher distributes the papers with orders and gives
students 5-7 minutes to finish the task.

your last weekend in no more than 100-120 words. You
letter should follow this order:
- Apologize for not writing sooner and explain why
- Say you were busy last weekend and give
examples
- Say why you liked/didnt like your weekend and
describe the things you did
- Say when you hope to see or meet your friend.
Then, the teacher divides the students in pairs and tells
them to read the letters to each other.
Then, the teacher asks them randomly to read their letter.
