May 21st Clayton County Young-Adult Male Empowerment Street Demonstration

The Purpose: To provide emotional support, positive career and social pathways through
high visibility, interpersonal engagement and real agency contacts via local thoroughfares

The Goal: To inspire our male youth by combating male absenteeism through high
visibility, moral support and person to person interaction

Why: To combat these dream killing statistics:


• Did you know that 70% of all prison inmates are high school dropouts? (Transforming School Culture, Muhammad)
• Or, that 85% of all juvenile inmates are functionally illiterate? (National Center for Educational Statistics)
• According to [Link], “Two thirds of students who cannot read proficiently by the fourth grade will
end up in jail or on welfare.”
• Consequently, more locally, 66% of African-American males in Clayton County are not graduating on time.

Where: Join us at Jonesboro High School (7720 Mt. Zion Blvd Jonesboro, GA 30236) at 6:00 p.m, prior to the 7:15 p.m
launch. Men, will disperse and assemble on their pre-designated intersection.

When: Friday, May 21st at 6:00 p.m at JHS. The street demonstration will convene at 7:45 p.m and conclude at 9:00 p.m.

How:
1. Show up: Following the launch ceremony, arrive with your sons, nephews, mentees or any other male youth at your
designated demonstration site.
2. Show your support for our male youth by raising positive reaffirming placards and signs also by engaging young men
within proximity.
3. Encourage passersby to support their sons, and for sons to remain in school and aspire to be positive upstanding men in
their communities.
This demonstration serves as a SHOW OF SOLIDARITY. By showcasing the number of positive, professional, upstanding
men in Clayton County we will make a resounding statement to our male youth that our numbers exceed and are far greater
than the negative element present in our communities and the destructive images broadcast in some media venues.

Who: All males. Invite your male colleagues, family members, and likeminded associates to participate. Bring your sons,
nephews, younger brothers, advisees and youth from single-parent families along.

Attire: Men, don your professional, work-related or social/service organization’s uniform to inspire our male youth to
become hard-working, upstanding, professional men—just like you!

REPRESENT YOUR ORGANIZATION AND ENCOURAGE YOUR MEMBERS TO
