WebQuest Workshop for Educators

Topic Selection
How to Create and Implement a WebQuest
-This topic was chosen because research is taught in the 6th
grade classrooms and can be used in 7th and 8th grade as well.
-WebQuest is easy to use and is a great tool to use for research.
-WebQuests can be time consuming to make and teachers have
expressed the need for help creating one.

Format of Staff Development


-The format would be a 1.5 hour session after school.
-It would not be mandatory.
-The workshop will focus on ways to engage students while doing
research.

Organization
-Teachers would be invited 3 weeks prior to the workshop by
colorful invitations put in their mailboxes.
-A reminder email would be sent out a week in advance.
-One last email would be sent the day of the workshop to
encourage participation.
-Snacks and drinks would be provided and donated by a local
business.
-The LMS will present all information and will encourage hands on
participation.
-The workshop would be chunked into smaller content that is
easily digestible.

Activities
Materials needed for the workshop would be a computer, projector,
Internet access and evaluation handouts for the presenter. All
participants would need a computer and Internet access.
Introduction A brief introduction will be made and the LMS will thank
each participant for coming. The LMS will encourage each participant
to grab some snacks and refreshments.
WebQuest 101 (20 minutes) The LMS would walk through how to use
a WebQuest and show a short YouTube clip to show how easy it is to

create. The LMS would introduce the WebQuest website and as well as
an easy platform to build a WebQuest at [Link].
Begin with WebQuest (20 minutes) - This time the LMS and
participants would walk through a WebQuest together. It would be a
step by step process. The LMS would emphasize that this can be used
for research and a fun way to use it would be for a scavenger hunt.
Hands on with WebQuest (30 minutes) Each participant will use their
own computer to begin creating a WebQuest on a future unit that is
taught in their classrooms.
The LMS will challenge each participant to set a goal to implement a
WebQuest in their classroom within a month of the workshop. Each
participant will set a goal with using WebQuest.
The workshop will finish with an evaluation provided on Google Forms.

Evaluation and Follow Up


An evaluation link will be emailed to each participant. The evaluation is
in Google forms. Informal evaluations will occur after the workshop
and include a follow up in the classrooms. Thank you cards will be sent

to snack and refreshment donors. An additional thank you email will be


sent to all participants for taking time out of their afternoon.
