SYNOPSIS
The story starts in China. There is a Panamanian transferee student named CJ, who went back to
China to live with his Chinese family. He is disrespected by his Chinese classmates due to his culture.
Jelmarc, the top student in their class, and his friends, Darwin and Matthew, abhors him so much because of
his appearance and culture in their first encounter because his crush, Bea, whom he can't even talk
befriended the boy. Eventually, he finds out that CJ is his half Panamanian-Chinese brother. He is so mad
and embarassed. Due to this fact, he acts arrogant towards him. To feel the sense of belongingness that CJ
wants, he starts to adopt his forgotten culture - his Chinese culture. He thinks that in changing the way he
lives, Jelmarc might accept him. However, his plan turns opposite. As the time goes by, Jelmarc feels like he
starts to lose everything he has because of the new CJ - his father, his rank inside the room, and his friends.
Jelmarc is so desperate in making an evil scheme to make his brother out of his life. He gets his revenge on
CJ, which puts his life in danger. Despite of everything he did to his brother, CJ saved him, catching the
bullet that should be for his brother. Jelmarc starts to realize his mistake and ask for forgiveness to his
brother. CJ, having a kind and pure heart eventually forgives his brother and they starts to live in peace and
harmony.
TIP Core Value:
Respect For Cultural Diversity
SCENE 1
School
CJ, Jelmarc, Bea, Mr. Debolgado, Mikhayla, Matthew, Darwin
Narrator: Cultural Relativism: "It is arrogant for us to judge other cultures." We can't judge other's
culture by our moral codes.
Today, we are going to witness two different cultures - Chinese culture and Panamanian culture. Chinese
people assume that Panamanians, who wear loose-fitting jeans and large size sweater, which is part of
Panamanian culture, might be thieves. On the other hand, some Panamanians assume Chinese people to
be gamblers, which is a part of Chinese culture.
The story started in Chen University. It is the only English speaking school in China.
Mr. Debolgado: Good Morning class. We have a new transferee student. Come in.
(CJ enters.)
Darwin: What kind of clothing is that?
Matthew: Yeah man, it sucks.
Mr. Debolgado: His name is CJ Viteri. He came from Panama.
Jelmarc: Oh that's why.
Mr. Debolgado. Mr. Chen.
Jelmarc: Yes Sir?
Mr: Debolgado: Kindly tour him inside the campus later.
Jelmarc: WHAT? Why me?
Mr. Debolgado: Being the top student of your class, I have a lot of expectations from you.
Jelmarc: Sorry Sir, I have a lot of things to do. Maybe Darwin has a lot of free time. (Simultaneously laugh)
Darwin: No Sir! I think Matthew can help him.
Matthew: No way! I mean... it's my mother's birthday today so, I can't.
Jelmarc: Your mother's birthday is over.
Matthew: Jelmarc!
Bea: Sir!
Mr. Debolgado: Yes Ms. Li?
Bea: I'll do it.
Mr. Debolgado: Very well.
SCENE 2
School
Andrei's Voice, Jelmarc, Matthew, Darwin
Narrator: The three best friends walked in the hallway.
Darwin: You know man, he looks like a thief.
Matthew: Yeah. He stole his girl. (Looks at Jelmarc)
Jelmarc: I can't believe it! Bea actually volunteered to be with that boy.
Matthew: Dude, are you jealous?
Jelmarc: No way, I'm a lot better than that Panamanian boy. HE IS JUST A PANAMANIAN BOY.
Darwin: At least he had a chance to talk to her, unlike you. Hahahahaha.
Matthew: Hahahahahahaha.
Jelmarc: Stop laughing.
(Jelmarc's phone rings.)
Jelmarc: Dad?
Andrei's voice: Have you met your brother?
Jelmarc: Oh I forgot. He's coming back right?
Andrei's voice: He just called me. He already saw you. You two are in the same class.
Jelmarc: DON'T TELL ME THAT-- NO WAY!
Narrator: His brother is the Panamanian boy, CJ Viteri, and this is where his new life begins.
SCENE 3
House
CJ, Andrei, Jelmarc
Narrator: This is CJ Chen, a poor Half-Chinese and Half-Panamanian boy. He lived most of his life in
Panama.
(Looking at his necklace.)
(Calling his mother)
CJ: I wish you were here Mom.
Jelmarc: Oh what a cry baby.
Narrator: This is Jelmarc Chen, his rich and arrogant Chinese half-brother.
CJ: Jelmarc, what do you want?
Jelmarc: Clean my room. I want it finished by afternoon. Do you understand?
CJ: I'm still working on something. Can't you do it on your own?
Jelmarc: Are you complaining? (Pull his shirt.)
(Andrei enters.)
Andrei: What's happening here?
Narrator: This is their father, Andrei Chen.
Jelmarc: Good morning Dad. It's nothing.
Andrei: CJ, is there a problem?
Jelmarc: Well Dad, we're having a good conversation. You know, games and stuff. Right?
CJ: Yes Dad, it's nothing.
Andrei: Okay, I'll go ahead. See you later boys.
(Andrei leaves.)
Jelmarc: (Pushes Cj.) I'll go ahead alone. Being with you is embarrassing.
SCENE 4
Classroom
CJ, Bea, Mikhayla, Jelmarc, Darwin, Mr. Debolgado, Matthew
Narrator: This is Bea, her one and only Chinese friend in school.
Bea: Zoshang ho!
Narrator: It means good morning.
CJ: Zoshang ho ti du!
Bea: Wow! You're a fast learner.
CJ: Well, I had to. I can't understand our classmates.
Bea: Well, me too. I can't speak Mandarin well.
(Mikhayla enters.)
Mikhayla: Bea! Come here.
Bea: Okay, see you later CJ.
(Bea goes to Mikhayla.)
Narrator: This is Mikhayla, one of their Chinese classmates.
Bea: Mikhayla, why?
Mikhayla: B gn t shuhu. Byo q jijn t.
Bea: What?
Mikhayla: I thought you were a Chinese.
Bea: Yeah but...
Mikhayla: Alright. I said don't go near him. Don't talk to him. He's from Panama. Who knows what he might
do to you.
Bea: Huh?
Mikhayla: You know, my mom told me that Panamas are thieves and shoplifters. Look at him. His face and
the way he behaves creeps me out.
Bea: Is that so? He's good, you should know him. You can't judge someone based on his physical features.
Mikhayla: Okay, you win. So, what now?
Bea: I'll introduce you to him. Maybe tomorrow?
Mikhayla: Alright then.
(Bullies enter.)
Narrator: These are Matthew and Darwin, Jelmarc's bestfriends.
Jelmarc: Hello.
Bea: Hi.
Jelmarc: Are you free tomorrow?
Bea: No. I'm sorry.
Matthew: It's okay Bro.
Jelmarc: Tch.
SCENE 5
House
Bea, Jelmarc, Mikhayla, CJ
Narrator: The next morning, Bea and Mikhayla went to Chen's residence.
Jelmarc: Hey, did you change your mind?
Bea: Oh. I haven't. I'm here for your brother. Where is he?
Jelmarc: Upstairs. (Mad)
(Jelmarc leaves the scene.)
Bea: Why is he mad?
Mikhayla: I don't know.
Narrator: Meanwhile, CJ is studying.
Bea: Good Morning!
Mikhayla: By the way, I heard that you were born here in China.
Bea: Really?
CJ: Yeah. I went to Panama when I was three years old.
Mikhayla: So, you used to wear the same way as we do?
CJ: Well, yeah.
Mikhayla: Then why don't you?
CJ: Must be a habit, I guess.
Mikhayla: I'll tell you something. You are in China and not in Panama, so wear something appropriate. To
be honest, everyone is mistaken you for a thief because of the way you look and the way you behave. The
moral code here is different from yours. In that way, I think our classmates might accept you.
Bea: Mikhayla, that's too much.
CJ: No, maybe your right.
Bea: But still, I don't think that their attitude towards you is appropriate. They should never judge one's
culture as better than the others.
Mikhayla: Not all people are like you Bea. But listen to me CJ. I suggest that you should take my advice.
CJ: Okay.
Scene 6
School
Jelmarc, Matthew, Darwin, CJ, Bea, Mikhayla
Narrator: Jelmarc went to school earlier than his brother.
Darwin: What's with the mad face?
Jelmarc: Who do you think is responsible for this?
Matthew: Bro, chill. You're not handsome when you're mad. You look like your low class brother.
Jelmarc: Tch.
Matthew: I'm just kidding.
(Bea and Mikhayla enter)
Darwin: I see. You got your heart broken.
(Matthew and Darwin laugh.)
Jelmarc: Tch.
Bea: Hey.
Jelmarc: Hey.
Bea: Where's your brother?
Matthew and Darwin: Aww.
Matthew: Seems she's never gonna look for you. (to Jelmarc)
Jelmarc: Do I look like a lost and found station?
Bea: What?
Jelmarc: I don't know where he is.
Bea: Okay. Thank you.
(CJ enters.)
Narrator: Everyone was shocked when CJ entered the room.
Mikhayla: Is that you? (Surprised Reaction)
CJ: Yeah.
Bea: You look amazing.
Darwin: Bro, did you see that? He looks better than you.
Jelmarc: Tch.
Matthew: What happened to him?
Jelmarc: I don't know and I don't care. (Mad)
(Jelmarc leaves.)
Matthew: Is he mad at us?
Darwin: I don't know.
Narrator: Matthew and Darwin went to CJ.
Scene 7

Jelmarc, Matthew, Darwin, CJ, Bea, Mikhayla, Mr. Debolgado
Narrator: As the day goes by, everyone befriended the Panamanian boy.
Mr. Debolgado: The list of top students are now posted in the Bulletin Board. Moreover, I would like to
congratulate Mr. Chen for being the top 1.
Matthew: Congratulations Bro, you're the best.
Darwin: Yeah, treat us some food Bro.
Jelmarc: Well, what's new? I'm always on the top.
Mr. Debolgado: I'm sorry. I forgot that there are two of you here. I'm pertaining to Mr. CJ Chen. I'm sorry.
(Everyone will congratulate him.)
CJ: Thank you.
Jelmarc: What? (Will suddenly stand.)
Mr. Debolgado: I'm sorry Mr. Jelmarc, you're grades were good but... Anyway, you're top 2 so don't worry
about it.
Jelmarc: But... (Will sit.)
Narrator: Jelmarc was really sad.
Scene 8
House
CJ, Jelmarc
Narrator: Jelmarc went home early.
Jelmarc: Is he trying to steal everything away from me? Is he trying to copy me? Well, he can't! He is just a
poor Panamanian boy, who have nothing from the start! What should I do?
Hmmm. I know. (Evil laugh)
Narrator: Jelmarc went to his brother's room. He stole his brother's necklace, a momento of CJ's
mother.
CJ: What are you doing here?
Jelmarc: Uhh.. I was looking for you.
CJ: Why?
Jelmarc: Can we hang-out?
CJ: Sure, where?
Jelmarc: At the casino.
CJ: Sorry bro but...
Jelmarc: CJ, this is a part of our culture. Yes, our culture. You're still a Chinese afterall. Gambling is our
entertainment.
CJ: Okay.
Jelmarc: Come on.
Scene 9
House
CJ, Jelmarc, Matt, Edwin, Jan
Narrator: CJ and Jelmarc went to the casino. The two brothers played with the Huang brothers - Matt,
Edwin and Jan.
Jelmarc: Let's play.
Edwin: Before we start, let's place our bets.
Edwin: Ten million pesos + this jewelry.
Jelmarc: Ten million pesos + this (necklace).
Narrator: Cj was shocked that his necklace was in for the wager.
Cj: Jelmarc, that's mine. Stop...
Jan: Don't interrupt them. (Pointing the gun)
(Jelmarc plays a game with the Gamblers.)
Narrator: Jelmarc lost the game.
Cj: Bro, how about my necklace?
Jelmarc: I lost so it's gone. (Evil smile.)
Narrator: But the gamblers werent satisfied, so they wanted more than just a necklace, they wanted
Jelmarc to serve them.
Edwin: Wait, we don't need this. (Throw the Necklace of Cj.)
Jelmarc: What?
Edwin: We want the future owner of Chen Industry instead. (Grabs Jelmarc)
Jelmarc: Wait!
CJ: Jelmarc!
Matt: (Pointing the gun) Got a problem?
(Ties Jelmarc up with a blindfold)
Jelmarc: CJ!
Matt: Quiet! (Point the gun at him)
(Jan will shoot Cj.)
Matt: What have you done?
Jan: Come on, let's go!
(Gamblers leave.)
(Jelmarc will be freed of the ties.)
Jelmarc: CJ, don't die. (Dramatic scene.)
Scene 10
Hospital
Narrator: They rushed CJ to the hospital. Good thing that his life is not in danger but he needs to rest for
a week. Their dad was angry at first but it turned into pity after seeing his son regret for the first time.
Andrei: Don't worry son. He'll be fine.
Jelmarc: No dad. That's not it. Since he lived with us, I showed him nothing but pain. In return for all the
bad deeds I did to him, he repayed me with kindness. I regret everything I did. (Cry)
Andrei: Everything will be fine. Trust me.
Narrator: After a few hours, Cj regained consciousness.
Jelmarc: Hey.
Cj: What happened?
Jelmarc: Youre ok now. I got your necklace back too.
Cj: Thanks.
(Dramatic pause)
Jelmarc: CJ... I...
CJ: It's alright. Stop crying.
Jelmarc: I'll make it up to you. I promise.
CJ: Thank you Bro. (Hug)
Narrator: The two brothers finally made up. Jelmarc finally accepted his brother with all his heart,
whether he is Panamanian or Chinese. He began to show his unconditional love to his brother. Despite
of the differences of the two brothers, they still share a common value, and this is love. Because if you
truly love someone, there will be no boundaries.
