There are four bookstores in Panama City that
might be of interest to travelers. (1) For those
seeking material on sciences or biological sub-
jects we recommend you visit the Smithsonian
Institute’s bookstore in Ancon, which is open
from 10:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday - Friday.
They have the best selection for this type of
material. (2) Exedra Books, located at the in-
tersection of Vía Brasil/Vía España, is Pana-
ma’s largest single bookstore and has a wide
assortment of titles covering a wide range of
subjects. As well, they have magazines. (3)
Libreria “Argosy”, located on Vía Argentina
just off the corner of Vía España (Blockbuster
Video), normally stocks a wide assortment of
travel guides and English speaking books. It
is quite small, but they do have titles that you
won’t find elsewhere in Panama. (4) The only
bookstore chain in Panama is “El Hombre de
la Mancha”, and they have between 8-10 dif-
ferent stores. Similar in style to Exedra Books
only much smaller, they have stores in the
Caesar’s Park Hotel, Albrook Airport, an on
the Causeway.
