About The Fishing School: Nearly a quarter of a century ago, recognizing that education can unlock the door
to knowledge and opportunity as well as break the cycle of poverty, Mr. Tom Lewis, a retired Metropolitan
Police Department officer, renovated a former crack house and transformed it into The Fishing School (TFS).
Since 1990, TFS has served over 5,000 children and their parents. Today, we continue to carry out an important
mission:
The Fishing School prepares public school elementary and middle school students for
success in high school and life by improving their academic performance and life skills;
and engaging them and their parents in intensive, multi-year, and research-based out of
school time and parent engagement programs and activities.
POSITION SUMMARY: The Site Manager plans and oversees core program operations at one of our partner
school sites, including: the implementation, with efficacy, of a comprehensive research-based youth program for
up to 150 elementary school students; management of staff, volunteers, and interns; and the development of
partnerships and relationships with school administrators, parents, teachers, and outside providers. The Site
Manager also collects and analyzes data to ensure the highest quality program delivery and coordinates special
events. We seek a highly impassioned individual with knowledge about the education field and ability to engage
youth creatively.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Site Management
o Recruits and ensures attendance of at least 75% of enrolled students and a minimum of 100 to 150
enrollees, contingent on size of overall school enrollment.
o Responsible for the safety and supervision of youth at all times with at least a 1:12 ratio of adults to
youth.
o Provides staff direction, supervision, coaching, and support, as needed.
o Tracks student academic progress utilizing program and school-day data. Recommends targeted
interventions to support student progress.
o Oversees the use of data driven instruction; uses data to provide ongoing assessment of scholars'
performance, including in-depth academic evaluations and evaluations of scholar attendance,
participation, and social development.
o Ensures accuracy of data input into official databases.
o Implements and maintains a positive behavior management system that is clear and aligns with TFS,
school, district, and state requirements.

Ensures compliance with all applicable regulations and requirements.
Ensures that all participants are treated with respect, encouraged to think critically, creatively and
supported to become successful learners.
Ensures that all curricula and program delivery mechanisms are implemented consistently and at a high
quality, daily.
Develops lesson plans for math, reading, and enrichment activities as needed.
Provides direct classroom instruction and student supervision as necessary.
Plans and executes high quality special events and field trips, using a clear work plan.
Manages site budget and prepares monthly budget reports.
Ensures that technology assigned to students and staff is operational, well-maintained, and secure.
Maintains a brand presence of TFS at the partner school site through approved signage, staff attire, and
documents.
Submits all required documentation on a timely basis, including attendance records, emergency cards,
permission forms, and surveys.
Implements required evaluation tools and surveys, including site observations.
Family Engagement
o Develops and maintains positive parent/guardian and student relations.
o Creates opportunities for parental involvement.
o Supports the logistics and recruitment for planned events designed to engage parents.
o Maintains accurate and complete parent center records (i.e. organizes original copies of registration
forms and database entry).
o Oversees the collection of data such as participation, feedback, tests, demographics, and attendance for
evaluation as needed.
School Engagement
o Meets regularly with the afterschool coordinator and key school staff regarding program operation,
outreach efforts, individual student progress, etc.
o Ensures appropriate forms are maintained for the sharing of student data.
o Ensures proper upkeep and maintenance of classrooms and other shared school space.
o Coordinates evaluation processes, including surveys of teachers, students, parents, etc.
o Ensures alignment of program activities with school learning standards.
o Considers school events in creation of TFS program schedule.
Development & Outreach
o Coordinates with development staff to ensure development department is aware of program events and
successes, and that program staff are aware of ongoing development events, activities, and needs.
o Works with development to create activities that will positively engage donors.
o Provides program information, results, data, photos, and other materials upon request to support
ongoing reporting and development functions.
o Works to encourage a culture of fundraising across the program staff.
o Requests and track parent and community donations. Works with program staff to develop, plan, and
implement a program-driven fundraiser.
o Collaborates with the development team to plan, implement, and staff volunteer and corporate events at
site.
o In conjunction with senior managers, site managers, staff and support fundraising events throughout the
year.
o Actively participates and supports TFS giving campaigns, online events, and community outreach, and
encourages site staff participation and support.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE SKILL REQUIRED
Bachelors degree in education or related field required
A minimum of 2 to 3 years of experience in managing an out-of-school-time program or similar educational
programs
Proven ability to train, develop, supervise, lead, and motivate staff and volunteers
Creative, highly motivational, hands-on style with excellent organizational skills
Strong background in youth program development and education (math and/or reading focus preferred)
Demonstrated commitment to and effectiveness in working on issues related to underserved communities
Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
Familiarity with youth program development, administration, assessment, and evaluation
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to develop management reports that are proven to be effective for driving critical management
decisions
