Essendon Thymosin Controversy Explained

This document discusses the Essendon supplements saga and the CAS hearing. It makes several key points: 1) No one knows for certain what substance(s) the Essendon players were administered, as the substances were never tested. 2) Several Essendon players denied being administered Thymosin during interviews. It does not make sense for CAS to question why these players did not disclose Thymosin injections earlier. 3) ASADA's investigation was flawed as it omitted or fabricated parts of players' statements regarding Thymosin. The document criticizes media for not challenging authorities and claims they "lay down like dogs."

Dear M/s Wilson

Before addressing your specific bile, I should like to say one last time that I dont give a stuff
whether every Essendon player said he was administered Thymosin.
I dont give a stuff whether every player lied and denied he was given Thymosin.
I dont even give a stuff whether Stephen Dank believed he had given the players Thymosin
Beta-4.

All of the above is irrelevant. No one, including the three panellists, knows what
substance the players were administered.

No one knows what substance GL Biochem (China) sent to Shane Charters

warehouse in Shanghai

No one knows what Charters warehouse sent Melbourne compounding pharmacist

Nima Alavi. The package said Thymosin but as it wasnt tested, no one, including
the three CAS panellists, knows whether it was Thymosin Alpha 1, Thymomodulin,
Thymosin Beta-4 or some other unknown substance.

No one, including the three panellists, knows what Alavi sent Dank.

No one, including Dank, the players and the three panellists, knows what was
administered to the players.

As the substance administered to only six players was never tested, it is hard to imagine how
three highly respected lawyers could possible risk ridicule by finding against the 34 players.
To make the impossible more impossible, it is my understanding that WADA made no
attempt to prove Player 1 was administered Thymosin Beta-4, nor Player 2, nor Players 3 to
34. I dont know what sort of world the three panellists live in but in my world if the
prosecutor makes no attempt to prove each defendant was guilty, they cant be found guilty.
I know WADA director general David Howman has brought disrepute to his organisation but
it is incomprehensible that the three panellists would do likewise.
Ms Wilson, lets now refer to yesterdays bile.
The Age Independent Always. How appropriate. The lies start on the front page.
My dad often used to say, If you lie down with dogs youll get fleas.
Yesterdays story, Essendon supplements saga: CAS concern over why Bombers omitted to
mention Thymosin injections was a disgrace. Surely, you must eventually get tired of being
used. Who asked you to do its dirty work the AFL, ASADA, WADA or Essendon?

If the headline is factually correct, someone is trying to condition us for another running of
Fine Cotton/Bold Personality. The three CAS panellists got away with bullshit if they did
express concern about why Bombers omitted to mention they had been injected with
Thymosin.
Five of the seven players appearing as witnesses at CAS David Hille, Mark McVeigh,
Brent Prismall, Scott Gumbleton and Corey DellOlio denied ever being administered
Thymosin. In May 2013 they told the ASADA/AFL investigators they had never been

Why then would the three CAS

panellists expect these five players to have told the
ASADA urine testers in 2012 that they had been
administered Thymosin?
administered

Thymosin.

Ms Wilson, if the three panellists ran this line of questioning with the aforementioned five
players then they have got away with a con.
The sixth player, Ricky Dyson, told the ASADA/AFL investigators that he was familiar with
the name Thymosin but he didnt know whether he was administered Thymosin or not. To its
absolute shame ASADA recorded Dysons response as a Yes in a table of Thymosin users
it collated. Talk about a corrupted investigation. Unconscionably, Dysons response was one
of 29 responses fabricated by ASADA. As an aside, why wouldnt Dyson be familiar with the
name Thymosin? It seemed Thymosin was mentioned in every newspaper, every day from 5
February 2013 onwards.
The seventh player called as a witness by CAS was Jobe Watson. ASADAs misconduct
towards Watson in 2013 should have ensured that the ASADA/AFL investigation was
declared null and void.
Watson was interviewed by ASADA on 6 May 2013. He gave the investigators the most
detailed and learned response to their questions about Thymosin. Watson described in detail
the conversation he had with Stephen Dank prior to Dank administering him Thymosin.
Watson said words to the effect that Dank mentioned that there was a banned Thymosin and a
permitted Thymosin and that he was administering the permitted Thymosin. In what was
obviously a deliberate mistake, to ASADAs lasting shame, it omitted Watsons comments
about Thymosin from the Interim Report. Out of 47 players interviewed, Watsons evidence
about Thymosin was the only evidence omitted in its entirety.
To its absolute disgrace, ASADA omitted part of Stewart Crameris evidence given on 21
May 2013 about Thymosin. The Interim Report states: Crameri recalled being injected with
what he believed was to be Thymosin by Mr Dank, Yep, Thromysin (sic) in the stomach;
And describing the label on the vial,

Because I picked it up, and

looked and saw it, yeah. [my emphasis]

My Comment: It is incomprehensible that ASADA omitted Crameris description of the
label. The label could only have had four product names on the vial Thymosin; Thymosin
Alpha 1; Thymomodulin; or, Thymosin Beta-4. As there is no such supplement as Thymosin,

realistically, the label could only have said Thymosin Alpha 1, Thymomodulin or Thymosin
Beta-4. If the label had said Thymosin Beta-4, ASADA would have shouted it from the roof
tops every day since 21 May 2013. At the very least it would have included Crameris
description of the label in the Interim Report. The fact that ASADA omitted Crameris
description indicates the label said Thymosin Alpha 1 or Thymomodulin.
After ASADAs chicanery in fabricating responses and omitting evidence, the CAS panellists
live in fairy land if they think Jobe Watson forgetting to tell a urine tester in 2012 that he had
been administered Thymosin is the smoking gun. This last comment is predicated on two
things. One, that Watson was tested in 2012 and didnt mention he had been administered
Thymosin. Ms Wilson you havent produced any evidence to support this claim. Two, that
are factually correct in your claims about how the panellists conducted themselves.
M/s Wilson, no one, including the three CAS panellists, can be comfortably satisfied that the
six players that admitted being administered Thymosin, were administered Thymosin Beta-4.
The fact that the other 28 players were charged is a disgrace and an indictment on Andrew
Dillon, Ben McDevitt, David Howman and the media. The fact that the media never
challenged the authorities proves the media has no respect for the profession and proves
many you lay down like dogs and let the authorities tickle your tummies.
Finally, your last sentence However all parties remain less optimistic following the CAS
hearing doesnt make sense.
My Comment:
All parties by definition must include WADA. Im delighted Howman is less optimistic of
his chances of pulling off the biggest miracle or con since JC turned water into wine.
It implies you have canvassed all parties. If the Essendon lawyers have told you that they
should be disciplined.
If the Essendon chief executive or a member of the board has told you that they should be
sacked.
If Jobe Watson has told you that he should leave the club for belittling himself in talking to
you. Id be surprised if you could find a single Essendon supporter who would condone an
Essendon player talking to you.
