INVOCATION
In the name of the Father, and of the (+) Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

INTRODUCTION
CONFESSION AND ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS
Someone who isnt part of the circle of the disciples of Jesus is casting out
demons in his name, and the disciples want him stopped. They appeal to
Jesus, but he refuses to see this as a threat. Jesus welcomes good being
done in his name, even when it is not under his control. The circle we form
around Jesus word must be able to value good being done in ways we
wouldnt do it, by people we cant keep tabs on.
Brothers and sisters, if we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves,
and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, God who is faithful and
just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
CHILDREN are always welcome to our Worship Service. Rainbow bags
and a cry room are available. A staffed nursery is also available if needed.
An usher will gladly provide you with assistance.
As a worship courtesy, we ask that you please turn off or set to vibrate

PRAYER UPON ENTERING THE PEW
Lord, make us instruments of your peace. Where there is hatred, let us sow
love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is discord, union; where
there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness,
light; where there is sadness, joy. Grant that we may not so much seek to be
consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to
love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are
pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.
Let us confess our sin in the presence of God and of one another.
Gracious God,
have mercy on us. We confess that we have turned from you and given
ourselves into the power of sin. We are truly sorry and humbly repent.
In your compassion forgive us our sins, known and unknown, things
we have done and things we have failed to do. Turn us again to you,
and uphold us by your Spirit, so that we may live and serve you in
newness of life through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.
Amen.
God, who is rich in mercy, loved us even when we were dead in sin, and
made us alive together with Christ. In the name of Jesus Christ, your sins
are forgiven. By grace you have been saved, through faith. Almighty God
strengthen you with power through the Holy Spirit, that your life may
reflect the love of Christ.

[King Ahasuerus] and Haman went in to feast with Queen
Esther. On the second day, as they were drinking wine, the king again said
to Esther, What is your petition, Queen Esther? It shall be granted you.
And what is your request? Even to the half of my kingdom, it shall be
fulfilled. 3Then Queen Esther answered, If I have won your favor, O king,
and if it pleases the king, let my life be given methat is my petitionand

James 5:13-20

Are any among you suffering? They should pray. Are any cheerful? They
should sing songs of praise. 14Are any among you sick? They should call
for the elders of the church and have them pray over them, anointing them
with oil in the name of the Lord. 15The prayer of faith will save the sick,
and the Lord will raise them up; and anyone who has committed sins will
be forgiven. 16Therefore confess your sins to one another, and pray for one
another, so that you may be healed. The prayer of the righteous is powerful
and effective. 17Elijah was a human being like us, and he prayed fervently
that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on
the earth. 18Then he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain and the earth
yielded its harvest.
19My brothers and sisters, if anyone among you wanders from the truth
and is brought back by another, 20you should know that whoever brings

John said to [Jesus,] Teacher, we saw someone casting out
demons in your name, and we tried to stop him, because he was not
following us. 39But Jesus said, Do not stop him; for no one who does a
deed of power in my name will be able soon afterward to speak evil of me.
40
Whoever is not against us is for us. 41For truly I tell you, whoever gives
you a cup of water to drink because you bear the name of Christ will by no
means lose the reward.
42If any of you put a stumbling block before one of these little ones
who believe in me, it would be better for you if a great millstone were hung
around your neck and you were thrown into the sea. 43If your hand causes
you to stumble, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life maimed than to
have two hands and to go to hell, to the unquenchable fire. 45And if your
foot causes you to stumble, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life lame
than to have two feet and to be thrown into hell. 47And if your eye causes
you to stumble, tear it out; it is better for you to enter the kingdom of God
with one eye than to have two eyes and to be thrown into hell, 48where their
worm never dies, and the fire is never quenched.
49For everyone will be salted with fire. 50Salt is good; but if salt has lost
its saltiness, how can you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and be at

EUCHARISTIC PRAYER
Holy, mighty, and merciful Lord, heaven and earth are full of your glory.
In great love you sent to us Jesus, your Son, who reached out to heal the
sick and suffering, who preached good news to the poor, and who, on the
cross, opened his arms to all. In the night in which he was betrayed,
our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to his
disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for you.
Do this for the remembrance of me.
Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to

Michael the archangel, captain of the heavenly hosts, is remembered on this
day along with the other angels and archangels. The word "angel" means
messenger, and in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, these beings have a
fully spiritual nature and no physical body.

Jerome was a biblical scholar and translator, but rather than translating the
original Hebrew and Greek scriptures into classical Latin, he worked in the
commonly-spoken Latin of the day, creating a version called the Vulgate.
