1. To make slurry, first weigh the active material as the table above. Ball milling
is used as mixer homogenizer, then put the ball in the weigh. *
2. Turn on the weigh
3. Measure active material mass (g)
4. Tare
5. Measure carbon black weigh as the table above. Make sure to add the carbon
black on the side of the wall so we can get the sample easier if it is too much.
6. Tare
7. Add binder as table above. Make sure to add the binder on the side of the
wall so we can get the sample easier if it is too much.
8. Put in zirconia ball into the ball milling ball (1 big ball to reduce particle
size, 3 small ball to mix the slurry)
9. Mix in the ball milling machine with 50 frequency for 30~40 minutes
[Link] mixing check the slurry to make sure we get the right viscosity (it
should looks like a lava molten). If the mixture is too thick then add more
nmp (3~5 drop per adding) then mix some more.
[Link] the viscosity is already good, then move to the next processes
[Link] aluminum foil and spread in the glass board (add ethanol first on the
board)
[Link] Cu foil and put on the aluminum foil (make it even using ethanol as
before)
[Link] the foil first before move to the next step
[Link] the slurry we just made onto the Cu foil and make sure we put everything
and there is no waste
[Link] doctor blade 50 microns to make the slurry even (put some of the slurry
on the tip of each side of the blade)
[Link] the slurry evenly on the Cu foil
[Link] the Cu foil in the dry oven.*
[Link] ball, spoon and zirconia with water and take the remaining using hand
*clean everything using ethanol first or last
Heat rolling
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
Cut the Cu foil covered with slurry *
place the Cu foil in between stainless steel plate*
turn on the rolling machine and heat until 100C
Reduce the gap until ~0.36 mm (roll both side of the tuner togheter!)
Roll the Cu foil couples of time until it is turn to mirror-ish (a bit reflective)
surface. Usually it is a bit bent if done (about 5~7 times)
6. Collect with an aluminum foil pocket and store in the vacuum locker*
7. Let the rolling machine cooled down first until 30C (dont forget to turn off
the Machine afterwards!!! Set timer if must!)
*clean everything using ethanol first or last
Battery assembly
1. Punch circle hole to be used as an anode of the battery*
2. Store the remaining sample in the vacuum locker
3. Collect the circular Cu foil and dried for a while
4. After dried weigh the circular foil and wrote the number on the box
5. Bring the box of Cu foil and ethanol into glove box
6. Fill the insertion chamber first before put in the sample and ethanol
7. Put in the samples and ethanol
8. Make sure the chamber is close tightly and then vacuum again for 20 minutes
9. The chamber with gas again
[Link] turn on the lamp in the glove box
[Link] the minimum tolerance of the pressure to -0.5 from 1.5 Pa
[Link] on the glove while pressing gas out to make it easier to put on the gloves
[Link] and spread aluminum foil on the floor of the glove box (dont be stingy,
cover as much floor area as we can)
[Link] the sample and ethanol from the chamber
[Link] some tissue to absorb excess electrolyte
[Link] some electrolyte using pipet and put on the tissue
[Link] the Li petri-dis under the hole puncher and cut some Li metal (usually for
punching 3 holes)
[Link] the battery component as such order: base-electrolyte (1~2 drops)active material-electrolyte(3~4 drops)-separator-cascade-lithium-disk-ringcap
[Link] the cap thoroughly while covered with tissue to prevent some
electrolyte leaking
[Link] the battery and collect in the sample box
[Link] everything up* and put the sample into the transfer chamber
[Link] off the gloves while pressing gas in
[Link] the pressure min tolerance to 1.5 Pa
[Link] off the light.
*clean everything using ethanol first or last
