Teacher's Day Script 2015
CAST:
Talkative Teacher(TT): Amabel
Assertive Teacher(AT): Fatinn
Newbie Teacher(NA): Nas
Cool Teacher(CA): Bianca
Sarcastic Teacher(SA): Desiree
Students: Rest of the drama students
Narrator: Cavell
**Note: Highlights are cue when to move. FOLLOW the
italics.
Scene 1:
Students are sitting at the front of the stage in different
levels. Teacher's are frozen in the background
Student 1: Hey, teacher's day is today right? You know,
Ive always wondered what teachers really think of us.
Student 2: They probably hate us lah, since theyre
forever scolding us about this and that.
Student 3: That's not true, some of them actually care
alot about us.
Student 2: They pretend only. When they all go back to
the staff room, that's when you know what they REALLY
think about us.
Students move to the side of the stage while the teachers
start moving.
Scene 2:
Teachers are getting seated for their meeting. They are
each doing their own quiet activity when Talkative
Teacher comes in to break the peacefulness.
Teachers: Where have you been? You are 10 minutes
late. The principal is about to arrive soon
TT:*panting*There was this student who kept asking me
question after question, I told him I was late already but
he still kept asking!
Teachers nod in understanding.
CA: You have it good at least! My class never ask me
questions other than what Ive done during my weekend.
SA: So what did you do during your weekend?
Cast goes into relatives tableu except for CA and two
other cast members(1 girl+ 1 boy) There is a table and
three teachers, CA sits in between Ma and Pa.
Ma: Why are you still a teacher?
CA:tries to talk but gets cut off by parents Its becausePa: Isnt it difficult with today's generation?
CA:Theyre tolerable butMa: Your generation was bad enough
Ma and Pa laugh together while CA groans and the cast
freeze out of the tablue and CA goes back to the group of
teachers.
Scene 3:
(speaks after everyone is back)AT: Being the 'cool'
teacher doesnt make you a good teacher.
CA: Excuse me?
AT: That's right. All you do is waste time and slack in your
job when youre suppose to be the role model.
CA: Is that seriously what society expects out of us?
Ensemble gets into the society tableu except for CA and
AT that go to bottom left and right respectively. TT gets
down and makes them make up.
TT: Calm down we all have different teaching styles. Not
all of society thinks that way. My friends think I earn easy
money.
Ensemble changes to friends tableu while TT, AT and CA
are left to wonder.
Scene 4:
NA breaks out of the tableu to speak but the rest are still
in the tableu
NA: But guys, how do the students actually think about
us?
Ensemble including NA gets into the tableu
NA: I really hope to not scare them.
Scene 5:
Stage only has teachers, students have gone back.
SA: Those are all their ideas of teaching but what about
our idea of teaching?
Everyone gets into the what I think tableu. Teachers get
to say their idea of teaching while in the tableu.
CA: I am their hero, their saviour!
AT: Their salvation!
NA: Their hope.
SA: A joke. SA laughs and everyone looks at her.
Scene 6:
Narrator: But what do they actually do?
Teachers get into the what-I-actually-do tableu. narrator
moves to bottom left of stage.
Narrator: Teachers and staff, we'd like to thank you for
all you've done for us. This play may be filled with
sterotypes and teacher tropes we see on television but
we know youre all unique in your own way in helping us.
Thank you.
Ensemble moves at 'teacher tropes' and stand in a line,
bowing at 'thank you'
