Chapter 2 If-Then Story Book Project
We have been discussing conditional statements in class. We have
discussed that we use these statements all the time, sometimes in the
form of if . . ., then . . . In mathematics and other disciplines, it is
these statements that can drive exploration and investigation and give
justification for processes.
We have read a storybook in class that uses if,then statements to
make a circle story. For this project, you will create a short story based
on the idea and style of the Laura Numeroff books: If You Give a Mouse
a Cookie, If You Give a Pig a Pancake, and many more. Variations may
include writing a poem, making a presentation like a PowerPoint or
Prezi; Any other format must be approved by the teacher. All other
requirements still apply.
You will need to construct your story in if-then or conditional statement
format. Your story must contain 10 conditional statements that
form a logical chain. Your final statements should end back where you
started, which is why it is called a circle story. You will need at least
1converse statement and 1 inverse statement.
The story text should be neat. It may be handwritten, but if you have
hard to read handwriting it would be better typed, you may cut out the
text and paste it into your book. A good storybook has illustrations,
and yours should too. You may use your own illustrations or clip art or
other media to include pictures that help you tell your story.
Remember that your storybook should be enjoyable for the reader. We
will take a few minutes in class for you to read some of your
classmates stories. Your storybooks will be displayed in the
classroom.
The grading rubric for this assignment is on the back of this page.
This page needs to be turned in with your project.
EXAMPLE:
If you read the rubric before beginning, then you will know how your
project will be graded. If you know how your project will be graded,
then you will know how to earn the maximum number of points. If you
earn the maximum number of points, then you, Ms. High, and your
parents will be very happy.
You may need construction paper to create your book.
There is some available in the classroom if you need it.
