JAYALALITHAA MUST BE PUNISHED FOR


DISRESPECTING NORMS AND TRADITIONS
Jayalalithaa swear as chief minister of Tamil Nadu for the fifth time. Her swearing in ceremony was marked
by confusion and sacrilege of the institution. Blatant mockery of rules and traditions is highly condemnable.
The tradition is that the Chief Minister swears in first followed by ministers as per the protocol of their portfolio
swearing in one by one. Contrary to that Jayalalithaa swear first, then the ministers ganged up in groups of 14
and took the oath in two batches. It was like a group of school boys reciting a hymn. Swearing and taking oath
of secrecy are sacred events. Traditional etiquette and norms are there for conducting these events. Throwing
these practices to the dustbin the entire ministry swear in 10 minutes. What was the hurry to finish the ceremony
improperly in 10 minutes?
It was routine to play the National Anthem before the ceremony. Only the first two lines of the Anthem was
played yesterday to meet out Jayalalithaas urgency. Jayalalithaa has insulted our National Anthem. Forget
about the legality behind this. But undoubtedly it is a bad precedence. The government has lost its moral right
to condemn anyone if National Anthem is stopped after 2 lines in any government functions or educational
institutions. It may have taken just another 30 minutes to play the full song and let the ministers take oath one
by one.
No one knows what was that emergency work that prevented Jayalalithaa from staying for another 30
minutes. She didnt even go to the secretariat after the ceremony. Jayalalithaa claims that her only duty is to
serve the people and that she spends 20 hours out of the 24 hours of the day in public service. If she cannot
spend 30 minutes for such an important government function where is the time for her to serve the people?
It is said that Jayalalithaa will inaugurate several welfare schemes kept in abeyance including the opening
of Amma canteens when she goes to the secretariat today. More than 500 government buses kept idle, metro
rail, additional building of Chennai corporation and several other projects kept waiting for a long time are said
to be inaugurated in the coming days. The assembly session deferred without reason will also be convened
shortly. Now the cat is out. All these public welfare schemes were ready for public utility long ago but were

deliberately kept blocked awaiting the release of one person from corruption case. This is the respect Jayalalithaa
has for the citizens.
Jayalalithaa does not think she is elected to serve the people. Instead she seems to believe it is the duty of
the Tamil Nadu people to subserve her. This is condemnable. Jayalalithaa should be punished by law for
disrespecting rules, traditions and people. If not, people of Tamil Nadu will punish her. This is certain within a
year.
