Students will have prior knowledge of how a political campaign
works by previously analyzing campaign websites.
Student played the Political Machine game over the last two days.
Content Describe in a paragraph. You can also add an outline.
In this lesson students will discuss in groups of 3-4 their experiences with the political machine
game. They will talk about what issues they did and did not focus on and why, along with the fallout
from those decisions. After small group discussion with guided questions, each group will share out a
summary of their groups experiences. We will have a class discussion as to whether the students
promoted their actual ideas or what they knew would get them elected. This idea of being a
politician will be reviewed through playing the game Cast Your Vote on [Link]. The game will
take about 10-15 minutes. The teacher will wrap up by asking students if after returning to the voters
perspective, would they have voted for either of their candidates that they made.

This lesson will be reviewing the ideas about political campaigns learned over the previous two
class periods. The students will discuss their experiences in small groups and as a class, which
will lead into students playing a game called Cast Your Vote. This game allows students to
analyze political candidates and decide who they would vote for, flipping the table on what they
did the previous two games. After the students finish the game, class will wrap up with a follow up
discussion about political campaigns from the perspective of the voter and the politician and how
those perspectives vary.

Additional materials you will use and how will you use them.
Every student will need a laptop or tablet to play the game.
Students will have a sheet of discussion questions to discuss while in small groups.

Evaluation Strategies
The assessments for this class period include the completion of the game, small group discussion,
and class discussions.
