What is the face of Christ presented to us in the readings
today? Is it the one plucked and spat upon in the reading from
Isaiah? Is it the glorified one honoured by the bending of every
knee penned by St Paul? Is it the one disappointed and abandoned by his own disciples and left to die in ignominy on a
cross? Or is it the one of whom the centurion said, truly, this
was the son of God? Let us try to see all of these today.

HELPING HANDS SUNDAY
Last weekend21st/22nd March
Sr Joan (Caritas Centre), Sr Maria (Cornerstones) and
Brother Chris (Missionaries of Charity) have all been in
touch with us this week to ask us to pass on their thanks
for the food, clothing and money that was donated for Helping Hands
Sundaywe didnt have chance to do a careful count up of the Easter
Eggs but we would estimate there were somewhere in the region of 250
of them!
Many thanks once again for your generosity last weekend.

THE CHRISM MASS
Salford Cathedral
Holy Thursday 2nd April 2015
Each year on Holy Thursday, the Bishop, priests and people of
the Diocese gather in the Cathedral for the Chrism Mass, during which
all the Holy Oils to be used in the diocese for the next year are blessed.
Each parish receives 3 tickets for the Mass. If you would like to attend
the Mass (we travel on a coach from our parish to the Cathedral) please
complete the form below and return it to the Parish Office by this Monday (30th March). If we have more names than tickets we will pull them
out of a hat (although thats never happened yet!) We leave at 9.00 am
and usual get back by about 1.30 pm.

COME HOME FOR EASTER
LIGHT A CANDLE.
By the childrens chapel (on the right hand
side of the church) you will notice our
Wrought-iron candle gatesthey will be
there until Holy Thursday, and they are
there so that you can light a candle for someone who you
want to come back to a regular practice of their faith.
pray for that person this week, and then invite them also
to come to church (invite them to come with you, because
that usually makes it easier for them to come back to
Church).
CHILDRENS LITURGY OF THE WORD
After quite a lengthy time of getting things organisedwe are going to begin having the Childrens Liturgy
of the Word at the 8.45 am Mass, beginning on the Third
Sunday of Easter (19th April).
We would like to invite all those who would like to be
involved in the 8.45 am Childrens Liturgy to come to a meeting on Wednesday 15th April at 7.30 pm in the Parish Centre.
If you havent indicated previously that you would like to be
involved please just come along. Those involved in the 10.30
Children Liturgy are also invited to come along to share
experience and resources. At the same time we will be doing
DBS formswhich every volunteer at both Childrens
Liturgy must complete. Dave, our safeguarding officer, will
be present to help with the completion of the forms. There is
a sheet in the Welcome & Information Centre detailing what
you need to bring with you for the DBS Forms.

The Easter Triduum
The Easter Triduum begins on Holy Thursday
with the evening Mass of the Lord's Supper,
continues through Good Friday and on Holy
Saturday, reaches its high point in the Easter
Vigil, concluding on Easter Sunday. These
three days are the most important time of the Church year.
The Mass of the Lord's Supper. On Holy Thursday we remember the Last Supper and that Jesus gave himself in the Eucharist.
We recall that Jesus chose his apostles to serve and lead the
Church. Remembering that Jesus washed their feet at the Last
Supper, the priest washes the feet of members of the congregation. The evening Mass of the Lord's Supper on Holy Thursday
is a beautiful and joyful celebration. Because Holy Thursday is a
feast day of the Blessed Sacrament, there is a procession of the
Eucharist after the Mass to the altar of repose set up for the occasion in the Parish Centre, (where parishioners spend time in quiet
prayer until 11.50 pm when we conclude with the Night Prayer
of the Church). The main altar in Church is stripped bare after
communion.
Good Friday. On Good F riday we remember the death of Jesus.
According to an ancient custom, Mass is not celebrated on this
day before the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday. The celebration of
the Lord's passion and death takes place in the afternoon (3.00
pm). There are three parts to the liturgy of the day: the Liturgy of
the Word; the Veneration of the Cross; and Holy Communion
with Hosts consecrated on Holy Thursday.
The Easter Vigil. On Holy Saturday the Church meditates on the
suffering and death of Jesus. Then the Church gathers to celebrate the Easter Vigil. The celebration of the Easter Vigil takes
place after nightfall (8.30 pm).
The Easter Vigil has four parts: The Service of Light; the
Liturgy of the Word; the Liturgy of Baptism; and the Liturgy of
the Eucharist.
During the Service of Light, all the lights in the church are
turned off and a fire is prepared outside the church. Then the fire
is blessed and the Paschal Candle is lit from the new fire. The
candle is carried into the dark church during the singing of the
Exsultet the Easter Proclamation. It is a sign of Christ, the Light
of the World, who has overcome the darkness of sin and death.
The lighted Paschal Candle provides the only illumination. Then,
from the flame of the Paschal Candle, members of the congregation light the small candles that they are holding. The flame is
passed from person to person until everyone is holding a lighted
candle. The light from the Paschal Candle and all the small candles provides the only illumination in the church during this portion of the liturgy.
During the Liturgy of the Word, the story of God's great
love for us is proclaimed in readings from the Old and New Testaments.
During the Liturgy of Baptism, all present stand with
lighted candles and renew their baptismal promises as a sign that
they share the new life of Jesus through his resurrection. During
this time 3 people will be baptised, and all 11 will be confirmed.
Everyone will be sprinkled with the new Easter water.
The Easter Vigil concludes with the celebration of the
Eucharist. This is a joyous sharing in the sacrificial meal of Jesus
Christ, Lord and Risen Saviour.

The Missionary Journeys of St Paul
Malta & Rome

Following on from the very successful pilgrimages
in the footsteps of St Paul in Greece in 2009 and
subsequent pilgrimages to the Holy Land &
Turkey, the Department for Evangelisation is completing the journey in the footsteps of St. Paul with
his journey to Malta and his martyrdom in Rome.
During our 4 days in Malta we will
explore the sacred sites of Valletta, St.
Pauls Bay and St. Pauls Island. We will
visit Mdina, Mosta (the silent city), Rabat,
sail to Gozo and visit sites that relate to
the Order of the Knights of Malta. We will
take a short flight from Malta to Rome on the fifth day of
the pilgrimage.
Our final 4 days of the pilgrimage
will follow Pauls journey to Rome,
visiting various places associated with
St Paul. We will also attend the
Wednesday morning audience with Pope
Francis in St. Peters Square (dependent
on Pope Francis being in Rome). Whilst in Rome we will
also visit the Benedictine Monastery at Subacio, where
there is a fresco of St. Francis that is reputed to have been
painted whilst he was visiting the Monastery. We will
also visit the catacombs, and hope to visit SantEgidio, an
ecumenical community in Rome.
The itinerary is subject to minor change.
Price per person: 1225.00
Prices are based on two people sharing a twin
bedded room on a Half Board basis, and includes
flights and all entrance fees.
