Hi and welcome to the 10th edition of the Fantasy Freakos rave for 2012. Even before the byes have begun, weve been hit with some massive injuries, with Scott Pendlebury
and Heath Scotland the latest to join the list. Speaking of byes, the first is now upon us and we could be in for a week of hurt. Donuts will be on the menu for most of us, but
you cant panic and attempt to trade yourself out of trouble. Everyone is in the same boat, so be patient and back your team in.
Enjoy this weeks read and best of luck for what will be a challenging round ahead.
MOST CONSISTENT IN 2012
CONSISTENCY THE KEY
With 10 rounds done and dusted, this is the perfect opportunity to take a look at the
most consistent performers for the year. For the purpose of the review (minimum
five games played), a players consistency is his average divided by the sum of
his average and his standard deviation. Ive taken the liberty of crunching some
numbers and come up with the below list, which reveals that the most consistent
performer has been injured ruckman Ben McEvoy. He has scored at least 83 DT
points in four of his five games, with his 69 in Round 3 his lowest return.
If we take a closer look at the group, there are plenty of uniques, with Ben Howlett,
Nic Naitanui, Liam Anthony, Brad Sewell and Jarrad McVeigh represented. Dustin
Martin isnt a unique and also features. Hes been widely criticised for not producing
big numbers, but from a consistency point of view hes been right up there, scoring
at least 75 in all but one game, while hitting 80 plus six times.
One of my all-time favourites, Jimmy Bartel, has been the sixth-most consistent
across the year, scoring above 90 points in seven of his nine games which have
included five tons. With a reachable breakeven this round, he could be the perfect
midfield upgrade, but keep in mind that he has a bye the following round, so you
may want to hold off until Round 13. For those wondering who the least consistent
is, you have to wait until next weeks rave for that to be disclosed.
RECORDS SHATTERED
Records are there to be broken as far as Im concerned, no matter how big they are.
There were two long-standing records that were smashed on the weekend by two of
the most exciting players going around, with Buddy Franklin becoming the first ever
player to eclipse the magical 200 DT point mark scoring 58 more than his previous
best return. Alistair Clarkson was right on the money declaring in the lead up that he
was ready to rip a game apart, and that he did, monstering the Kangaroos defence on
his way to 13 goals the most recorded by any player since Matthew Lloyd booted 13
against Sydney in 1999. His conversion rate came under heavy scrutiny in the lead-up
as well, but he had his kicking boot on, recording a set shot scoring accuracy of 80%,
which was up from a 35% return in the opening nine rounds. Dont expect a similar
score this week, as hes topped 90 points in only one of his 11 career games at AAMI
Stadium, for a dismal average of 64 per outing.
Gary Ablett, not to be outdone by Buddy, broke a record of his own, racking up a
career-high 53 disposals against the Magpies the most recorded by any player
since 1999 and the equal-most recorded by any player ever, with Greg Williams also
reaching that mark in 1989. Gazza had Buddys record in his sights, but he fell short
by 18 points, finishing with 186 the sixth-most ever recorded. Since returning from
his two-week injury layoff in Round 7, he leads the competition for points scored,
averaging 129 per game.

Collingwood have been hit with two massive injuries, with Heath Shaw
missing last round with a calf problem, and now Scott Pendlebury suffering
a cracked tibia against the Suns. This will rule him out for up to two weeks,
so hopefully hes fit for the Round 13 encounter with West Coast. Softening
that blow is the pending return of Dane Swan for the Melbourne clash.
