Individual Self Reflection

Fundraising
Did you lead or participate in any fundraisers? What did
you do? Were they successful?

What do you think you could do, to make the fundraisers

more successful?

Do you think the CSP classes were useful? Educational?
Well planned and well executed? Why or why not?

I did lead both fundraisers since I am the team

manager. For both fundraisers we accomplished
to do 2 bake sales in which totally we managed
to accumulate between 200 and 210 dollars. For
the first bake sale I brought a cake and for the
second bake sale I brought chocolate chip
cookies. I organized the group and took a list on
what each student was bringing for each bake
sale. Both bake sales managed to earn a greater
profit than what was initially invested, however I
think that we could have made far more money
by having better publicity and awareness.
We must increase our publicity, in other word
increase the amount of awareness that a bake
sale is going to take place, this way students will
be more prepared and they will bring more
money.
I think CSP classes were completely necessary
and far more useful than what was planned. In
each class me managed to plan what we were

Apart from all of this, we managed to work on
our Vivero, where we planted all the Pencos. This
was far more educational than reading from a
book about Pencos, we actually managed to
plant and grow Pencos. This educated all
students about their own Ecuadorian culture and
the meaning and purpose of each Penco. All
activities were well planned and well executed
since we managed to achieve our primary goal.
Each class I spoke to all the students asking
them whether they had done what they had to
or wither tell them what they had to do. Also I
Helped build the vivero each class by gathering
a group of students and gathering everything
needed. As the team leader I had to constantly
work on the vivero, even outside of CSP hours.
Having more time for each CSP class, since what
we do in each class is already meaningful and
useful and if we get more time we can even do
more activities such as games between all
students to join the group even more.
Every visit we made was extraordinary. In our
first and second visit we managed to learn about
the Vivero even more and the nature and
science of planting seeds. We learned the
necessary mixture of for the soil; this involved

the use of certain chemicals. We also learned

and practiced the caring of each plant and the
treatment needed for it to be healthy, this
involved extracting weeds from the original seed
which threatened the life of the plant. This was
all hard labour work, and it also involved heavy
weight lifting and the management of dirt. In our
third Visit we climbed the mountain Ilalo to plant
our own Pencos that we had grown in the Vivero
we built. This also took lots of skill and hard
labour work. We learned how to work as a group
and how to maintain each one of us by helping
and providing to each one of us.
I had to arrange the meeting with the people
from the Vivero, in order to organize a date for
us to visit, I also had to visit the vivero before
going with my group. I also had to work on the
Vivero to plant our Pencos and make them grow,
this involved gathering recourses and taking
care of of the seed in order for them to grow
healthy. I also had to manage my team by
preparing them for the visit. This I did by telling
them what to bring and how to be fully
prepared.
On our first visit to the vivero we did not have
the chance to plant any plants, however on our
second visit we did have the chance to plant and
bed the plants into the dirt beds. However, the

real thing we did not manage to attempt was the

treatment of the seed, where we had to prepare
the seed before planting it, this involves the use
of chemicals and other materials. I only had the
chance to see one and to help into the process
but the rest of my team did not have the chance
and it would be far more educational if all of the
team learned how prepare a seed using all
materials needed just as in a lab. In or final visit
to Ilalo, I think that for next time we should visit
another mountain, with a better use fore Pencos
and get more people and students involved. We
also have to be more prepared because we
werent able to carry all the necessary soil
needed for the seeds up to the mountain. It
would had been far more usefull if we had taken
all the dirt in a car this way more Pencos could
have been planted.
Awareness
Was the blog/ webpage successfully created and updated?

First of all I wasnt in charge of the blog,

however the only way I contributed for the blog
was through Facebook by contacting all the
students in the group asking them to join and
finally, by sending all the pictures needed to
Daniel, who was in charge of the blog. Overall I
think the blog wasnt as successful, almost none
of the students visited the blog, but what was
really useful into gathering the team together

Do you feel that you have raised awareness of the

community or cause you have been working for? Give
examples of how.

I think I have gathered an awareness of our
community group and of our cause we have
been working on. First of all outside of CSP hours
I talked with other students from other CSP
groups and we shared our progress. We also had
to take in a group that was not planned and we
shared our cause with them and they joined and
helped planting the Pencos on the third and final
visit. Posters were placed around the school
explaining our cause and our Group
teacher/leader: Mr Angulo shared our cause in
his classes with the rest of the year groups. In
each bake sale we explained why we were doing
the fundraisers to each student who bought from
us. However more awareness could have been
accomplished.

take care of the seeds and (what took the
longest) build the entire Vivero with the help of
Mr Angulo and Mr Fernando. Apart from the
Vivero, I constantly reminded the students to
accomplish their task via email, of whenever I
managed to see them around school.

Reflections on members of your group (Year 7 to 11) by management

Do you think the members of your group participated
in the activity successfully? Give examples. No
names required.

Do you feel members of your group were able to give

their opinions and ideas? Did they want to?

All of my group was somehow motivated all the time,

for me personally I think that the idea of them working
with the older children makes them want to work even
harder, this way I had to use this as my advantage and
motivate them even further. Apart from all of this we
had an incredible teacher who was always pushing us
and motivating us in the most entertaining and fun
way possible. In the activities all students worked
hard, there were times that they stopped working and
started to have a chat but I reminded them to go back
to work. Sometimes I even didnt have to do that since
the students started to remind other students and so
on. For example, on the climb to Ilalo some students
had trouble carrying things so as the older kids we
took responsibility (this does not apply to year 12
students since they did absolutely nothing) however
the younger students shared their duties and worked
hard as a team. They even started competing on who
planted more Pencos.
Some of the group members are really shy, however
when they were asked they did give their opinions.
Some of them didnt want and it wasnt right to force
them or make them do it. However I believe that each
and every one of the students were able to give their
opinion. As I say we managed to be a really unite
group at the end.

Do you feel members of your group were enthusiastic As I previously said, all of the students were

we were doing this and that it was important. However
I believe that they are not as mature enough to realize
its true importance, but it is a beginning and it starts
somewhere, therefore I conclude that they are aware
of the situation towards Pencos and with time, if the
group Is still going on, they will take more
responsibility towards it.

1. They worked well as a team, they were positive

Reflections on other members of your management team (Year 12 and 13)

Do you feel that your management team were

successful? Why or why not? Be specific.

My management team was successful; we managed to

work as a team and to organize the group. We
successfully managed to accomplish all task on each
visit and maintain the group united which is really
important. However the students in year 12 hardly
helped, honestly, and in the visits they didnt care and
they didnt work hard towards the activities.

example of when it was good and when it was lacking. because the students in year 12 didnt care and we
had to do all the work. For example when we were
climbing Ilalo the students of year 12 did not carry a
thing and we had to carry all of the dirt bags. On the
top, they hardly planted seed while students in year 7
were already on their tenth seed. We get along with
the students in year 12, however it was really hard
working with them because they didnt care.
Do you feel like each member of your management
team did their assigned jobs? Which were particularly
successful and which were not?

I feel they did manage their assigned jobs. Mateo

Carrera, Jose Carrera and Daniel Blair were the most
successful since they contributed on the building of
the Vivero and finished their tasks.
Do you feel like the management team successfully
Yes, all group members were involved, no one was
used all members of the group (years 7-11) in order to resting, each one of the group members had
