Sample is the physical form of buyers specification or style/design. After draw a cache a
sample is prepared for the buyers and sends to the buyers. Sampling may be in two ways.
1. Sampling after confirmation price.

For sampling a merchandiser need Fabrics, yarn, level, etc.
First Pattern (first sample): The First Physical Version Of Any Garment As Per The
Artwork Done By Designer And/Or Developer.
2nd Pattern (2nd Sample): Usually Designer/ Developer Always Asks For Some
Changes To The First Pattern. Second Pattern Is Made As Per Comments.
Sales Man Sample: Sample Is Made When PRICE Is Confirmed And Orders Are On
Speculation, Usually In L Size In All Color Combinations Of Expected
Production: It Is A Reference To The Buyer That The Bulk Is Being Produced As Per
Specification. Buyer Wants To Be Assured That Correct Material Is Sourced And Line
Workmanship Confirm To The Quality.
Counter Sample (Based On Buyer Requirement,) Where First Pattern Is Made On
Designers Artwork, Counter Sample Is To Make Not On Designers Artwork, Has To Follow
Another Sample Given By The Merchandiser
Fit Sample/Red Tag Sample/ Proto Type Sample: Samples Are Made With Actual Color
And Material To Be Worn By The Models On The Event Of SHOOTING For Catalog.
Approval Sample: In Any Discrete Period Of Time, Whenever It Required Any
Revision In The Sample, A New Sample Is Made (Some Times Mock-Up Is Workable Too)
As Per New Specification. It Is Sent To Buyer For His APPROVAL Of The Conformity
That- The Revision Is Done Correctly.
Preproduction Sample/Size Set Sample/ Production Sample: When Material For Bulk
Production Arrived, Factory Makes A Sample With The Actual Material And Sends To
Buyer.
Shipping Sample: A Sample Is Kept From Every Pre Shipping Inspection To Be
Referred, If Required, After The Order Has Been Delivered. Usually For Any Disputes (E.G.
Claim) Shipping Sample Is Important.
Mock Up Sample: Any Part Of The Garment To Make For Particular Purpose, Not
Complete Garment. Sometimes It Is Necessary To Send To The Buyer Any Part Of The
Garments, Such As Sleeve, Collar, Neck Etc And Some Accessories.

Garment samples are inevitably important and are developed tested before starting the bulk
production. It means making a sample of the garment /fabric which requires to be sold. Sampling is
one of the main process in Garment Industry and it has a vital role in attracting buyers. Because the
buyers generally places the order after they are satisfied with the quality of the samples.
Types of Garments Sample
a. Proto Sample:
Features:
These samples are made by the manufacturer by available fabric and accessories.
These samples are made before or after order confirmation.
Purpose:
By These samples buyer checks whether or not the factory can make the garments.
b. Fit Sample:
Features:
These samples are made by the manufacturer by available fabric and accessories.
These samples are made after order confirmation.
Purpose:
By These samples buyer checks the fitness or measurement of the garments.
c. Pre-Production (P.P) Sample:
Features:
These samples are made by the manufacturer by actual fabric and accessories.
These samples are made after order confirmation.
Purpose:
Buyer will do bulk production following P.P sample.
d. Size Set Sample:
Features:
These samples are made in all sizes.
These samples are sent to the buyer.
These samples are made in the production floor.
Purpose:
These samples are made only for PP meeting or internal purpose.
e. Production Sample:
Features:
These samples are collected from the production floor while bulk production is running.
These are sent to the buyer.
Purpose:
By these samples buyer compares Production Sample with the P.P Sample.
f. Garments Test Sample:
Features:
These samples are collected from the production floor while bulk production is running.
These are sent to the testing house.
Purpose:
By These samples Testing House tests different aspects of the garments and sends test report to
the buyer and factory.
g. Shipment Samples:
Features:
These samples are not so mandatory.
These are sent to the buyer after the shipment of the products.
Purpose:
By These samples buyer compares the Production Sample with the Shipment Sample.

Development Sample: Which sample make by available fabric & accessories and send to
buyer to collect order from the buyer that is called development sample.
Fit sample: Medium or large size have to send buyer for checking fits of dummy that is
called fit sample
Pr-production sample (PP Sample): which sample make by actual fabric & accessories and
send to buyer for final approval to start production.
Lab test: Which sample make by actual fabric & accessories and send to local laboratory
(Buyer Nominated) to check fabric structure such as-GSM, Color fastness, Rubbing,
Shrinkage, printing,& embroidery.
Size set sample: send to local buying house all size sample made by according to order, style
& color& get them approved from buying house
Counter sample: To reserved with pattern for future order from buyer that is called counter
sample
Production sample: First production garment will be send buyer for buyer satisfaction.
Shipment sample: according to the buyer requirement like accessories, ploy bag, tag etc is
been made and kept ready to ship the before dispatched.
