2.1) History of company implementing JD Edward-
American States Water Company has implemented JD Edward ERP system. This company chose J.D.
Edwards based on its application functionality, solid reputation within the utility industry
marketplace the company's global reach and its ability to help make their businesses stronger.
American States Water Company is a company that, through its subsidiaries, provides water service
to approximately 12,000 customers in the city of Fountain Hills, Arizona and portions of Scottsdale,
Arizona. The Company distributes electricity to approximately 22,000 customers in the Big Bear
recreational area of California, and contracts with various municipalities and private entities in both
California and Arizona to provide services to an additional 91,500 customers. This company
challenged to find solutions that improve operational efficiencies and optimize the use of people.
J.D. Edwards provided a tailored solution for the service that is easy to implement, meshed well with
current legacy systems and culture, and provided visibility into operations and financials to help us
improve the economics of our business.
2.2). JD Edward provides the below features, proving it best ERP
a) Modularity: Only Oracle JD Edwards offers you a choice of databases, operating systems and
hardware so you can build and expand your IT solutions to meet business requirements .It has
flexible array of integration methods eg-perceptive software. LearnMode, A patented tool that
learns specific JD Edwards screens within moments without any programming and uses that
information to seamlessly present just the right content to the user at their precise moment of need.
In addition to LearnMode, Perceptive Software has an integration framework that is ideal for JD
Edwards. This framework validates data captured via Perceptive Capture technologies, transforms it
into actionable information, and passes it into the ERP. Content that was once locked into a
reference-only document image can be extracted and used to initiate transactions inside your core
business application.
b) Flexibility: It Flexible and scalable, the toolset design is developed with open standards. The
financial processes across all apps are integrated into a single database which helps in linking with all
other JD Edwards EnterpriseOne solutions. JD Edwards also offers 70+ applications modules, which
are designed to allow different companies with changing needs.
c) Open Architecture: A package of integrated, open standards software products, Oracle
Technology Foundation is designed to lower your total cost of ownership, simplifying both
implementation and support while also enhancing ease of use. Oracle
Technology Foundation leverages Oracles industry-leading software infrastructure to deliver a
complete package that includes Oracle Database,
d) Integration: Helps in integrating across departments and is in an effort to integrate business
processes and to manage asset financial performance associated with plants, distribution facilities,
maintenance, inspections and energy-related services.
e) Workflow integration approach: A work flow process in JD Edward is created and managed in
Object management workbench. Here the project is broken down into multiple phases as WBS for
modular planning and development of cross functional communications.
f) Internet and Intranet enabled: JD Edward provides integrated mail system which allows users to
communicate with external email software e.g. - Microsoft outlook etc. Simple mail transfer protocol
is used to do. SMTP is protocol is for sending messages from one computer to other.
