Denver youth: Have fun, explore a career, get $200!
Industry Academy opportunities still available in IT and environmental health

DENVER, CO Friday, July 11, 2014 The Denver Office of Economic
Development (OED)s Youth Services is seeking teens ages 14-16 who would enjoy
exploring careers in the information technology and environmental health fieldsand
earn a $200 stipend doing it.

Each of the industry-specific, hands-on academies for Denver youth lasts 3-4 weeks
and provides a great view into what these potentially lucrative career fields are all
about. The two opportunities with openings for additional applicants include:

IT Academy
OED Youth Services is partnering with Colorado FutureTek to provide students with
a four-week course on Information and Communication Technology (ICT). Students
will gain valuable computer skills and become fluent in basic computer hardware,
software, and IT terminology.

Dates: July 21

- August 15
Times: Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to Noon
Location: Metropolitan State University in Denver, Auraria Campus

Environmental Health Academy
OED Youth Services and Groundwork Denver are joining forces to offer an
Environmental Health Academy. Students will receive training and experience in
urban agriculture, watershed restoration, and natural resource management, while
also working on exciting community projects.

Dates: August 4 - August 22
Times: Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m. 2 p.m.
Location: Groundwork Denver, 3050 Champa St., and various locations throughout
Denver

To be eligible, youth must be Denver residents or enrolled in foster care within the
City and County of Denver. Priority will be given to youth from low-income
backgrounds. Enrollment is on a first-come, first-serve basis, so applicants are
encouraged to act now. The $200 stipend is paid upon completion of either
