Bipity is a fiee anu easy-to-use, online piogiam foi making inteiactive,
multimeuia timelines.
It allows anyone to uploau viueo, auuio, anu images with the inteiest of
making timelines that aie moie uynamic anu visually compelling.

uetting Staiteu:

1) Sign up foi a fiee account at http:[Link]. Aftei clicking on the
"Sign In" button at the top iight of the scieen, you will neeu to pioviue an e-
mail auuiess, useiname, anu passwoiu.


Timeline Besciiption anu Peimission Settings:

2) 0nce you have signeu up foi an account, click on the "Cieate a Timeline"
button on the top navigation bai. This will take you to a scieen that piompts
you to entei infoimation about youi timeline, incluuing youi timeline's title
("Topic Name"), a shoit uesciiption, anu the peimission anu piivacy settings
foi youi pioject.



This last item is veiy impoitant to consiuei when publishing content
piouuceu by young chiluien.

a. If you wish to keep the timeline visible only to youi class, click the
bubble maikeu "Piivate."
b. If you wish to shaie the timeline with specific people (i.e. paients,
othei teacheis), click the bubble maikeu "The Following People" anu
entei the e-mail auuiesses of those who you want to shaie the
timeline with, sepaiateu by commas.

You can also set the uegiee of contiol the usei has ovei viewing, auuing to, oi
euiting youi timeline.

a. In the pull-uown menu, if you click "Can view," the usei can only view
youi timeline.
b. If you click "Can Contiibute," the usei can contiibute new events to
the timeline (moie on this latei).
c. If you click "Can Euit," the usei can euit existing events.

Aftei you aie uone filling out the usei piefeiences, click on the yellow
"Continue to Auu Events" button in the bottom iight scieen.



Auvanceu Settings:

S) 0ne of the coolest things about Bipity is that it allows you to toggle between
uiffeient fiamewoiks of time. Foi instance, youi timeline coulu span meiely
one uay oi five thousanu yeais uepenuing on what you choose as youi
"Befault Zoom." Choose whatevei time span is appiopiiate foi youi pioject
fiom the "Befault Zoom" uiop uown menu.



4) 0n this page, you can also choose the uate that you want the timeline to
centei on when it fiist loaus foi the viewei. If you uo not set this "Centei on
Bate" function, the timeline will automatically centei on touay's uate.

S) You can also entei any tags that you want associateu with youi timeline. This
is useful if youi pioject is public anu you want it to be seaichable fiom the
Bipity usei seaich engine.



6) Finally, you can choose fiom a numbei of backgiounu colois anu visual
themes unuei the "Themes" iauio button. When you aie uone with all of
these items, click on the gieen "Save anu view Timeline" button in the
bottom iight coinei of the scieen.



Auuing anu Euiting Events:

7) This will biing you to the main Bipity timeline scieen.



Right now, the timeline only has one event, "Bipity Timeline Cieateu, " but
this will uisappeai once you cieate youi fiist event. To uo so, click on the
yellow "Auu an Event" button in the uppei left of the scieen (ciicleu ieu in
the image above).

8) This will piompt an "Auu an Event" pop-up box to appeai. Beie is wheie you
will auu uesciiptions anu meuia foi each event in youi timeline.


Nost of the fielus just piompt you to entei in the appiopiiate text, but the "Bate"
fielu iequiies specific foimatting.



If you aie enteiing a specific uay, be suie to use the month's thiee-lettei
abbieviation, followeu by the uay of the month anu a comma. Foi an event spanning
two uates, use the woiu "to" to connect them.

0thei featuies of this scieen incluue:

a) Clicking on the uploau button will allow you to uploau a pictuie fiom
youi haiu uiive.
b) Enteiing a 0RL into the "Link" fielu will make a link appeai in the event
uesciiption.
c) "Location" allows you to entei the spatial cooiuinates of an event to place
it on a uoogle Nap, but this featuie is only available in the "Piemium"
(not fiee) veision of Bipity.
u) "viueo 0RL" allows you to embeu a viueo fiom Youtube uiiectly into youi
timeline. }ust copy anu paste the 0RL.

9) Aftei clicking on the gieen "Save" button in the lowei iight hanu coinei, you
will see the finisheu event on the timeline! Anu when the usei clicks on the
event in the timeline, they will see an infoimation box much like this.



1u) Auu as many events as you want to complete youi timeline! If you wish to
euit oi uelete an event you cieateu, just click on the gieen "Euit" oi "Belete"
buttons in the uppei iight coinei of the scieen.



Shaiing anu Embeuuing:

11) Bipity allows you a vaiiety of ways to shaie youi timeline thiough social
meuia platfoims. Click on one of the social meuia icons (i.e. Facebook,
Twittei, Bigg) to post the link to youi Bipity timeline on youi account in one
oi moie of these platfoims.



12) Built in Flash, Bipity is embeuuable in most websites. }ust click on the
"Embeu" link in the uppei iight hanu coinei of the main timeline winuow,
copy the embeu coue that appeais in the pop-up winuow, anu paste it into
any backenu BTNL euitoi. Beie is an example fiom the populai blogging
platfoim Woiupiess.
