Position Summary:
Under limited supervision, the Senior SQL Support Engineer fills a key role in the Infrastructure
Operations team providing operational support of our core SQL servers. Performs analysis of PPS
applications/processes and makes recommendations in areas that require a high level of technical
competency and coordination with Development and Operational team members.
Nature and Scope:
Position is one of several based in the Information technology department. Incumbent is responsible for
operational execution and will participate in design, vendor evaluation, implementation, and management
of multiple projects. This position will span many roles including Database Administration, Database
Development, and other data related tasks. This position requires excellent technical and communication
skills.

Performs Database Design/Analysis/Programming and Training:
Able to monitor performance and trouble shoot business-level problems at the server level (triage) and
work with Development/QA/BA teams to provide guidance and advice on issues.
Designs databases and data dictionary criteria.
Provides operational support for many complex applications, database servers and databases.
Provides technical training, guidance, and resource support for end users and Departmental staff.
Acts as technical liaison between business partners and Information Technology.
Manage crises that may involve technically challenging issues and diverse audiences.
Experience in ETL using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), report generation using SQL Server
Reporting Services (SSRS), and data mining for Business Intelligence using SQL Server Analysis
Services (SSAS).
Experience in performance tuning especially tuning complex queries, stored procedures, functions, and
indexing strategies
In addition to all accountabilities of the Senior SQL Support Engineer position, assumes greater
leadership role, utilizing broader knowledge and high-level technical skills.
Assists in developing user documentation and departmental policies and procedures that impact the use
of applications.
Continues to develop professional skills in the information systems and health care fields through trade
magazines, manuals, seminars, and courses.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business Administration or related field is required.
Masters degree is preferred.
Minimum of five years hands on experience with Microsoft SQL Server and related technologies.
5+ years experience in SQL Server database support or management
Deep expertise in SQL Server 2008/R2, SSIS, SSRS, and SSAS required.
3+ years of customer support experience.
Microsoft development technologies (VS 2008/2010/2012) experience desired.
Must have ability to exercise independent judgment in planning, organizing, and performing systems
analyst tasks. Some independent judgment required in setting priorities of tasks among multiple assigned
projects.
Must have ability to communicate, motivate, and organize projects among a broad spectrum of personnel
throughout the network, frequently under deadline pressure.
Knowledge of information systems, including some familiarity with financial /business applications, clinical
applications, managed care applications.
