Seon exercises follow the flow of the five
elemental energies in the body and strengthen
circulation and the organs. They are easy
exercises that can be followed by any age group
or gender and they have a powerful effect
based on exact principles. These exercises
have been practiced for thousands of years in
the East.
Energy flows in the body in terms of six energies, earth, metal, water, tree, fire and the immune system and they are
called the Five Elements. You can see from the chart some of their characteristics.

Benefits
"Danjeon" is the reservoir to store the fundamental energy of the Universe. According to Oriental theory, there are 12
aculines in the body. These lines are very complicated, and energy uses these aculines to flow. That which makes the
energy that is flowing through the body more stable and which acts as a vessel to gather the energy is precisely the
danjeon. "Dan" means the state where energy accumulates and turns red. "Jeon" represents the container in which
the energy is stored.
Danjeon is not visible anatomically, for it is made of vital energy. It canot be
see or found with the physical eye, but, once you do Danjeon breathing, you
can feel it exists. You will feel warm in that area. As energy is accumulated
there, you will have some strange feeling as if there is a globe in your lower
abdomen. If you open a seed, you cannot find the life inside it. But if you plant
the seed, it will sprout. In the same way, if you look into the anatomy of the
body, you cannot see the danjeon, but if you do danjeon breathing, you can
experience your mind and body blossoming anew. As you continue to gather
energy in the danjeon through breathing, energy will spread throughout the
body like water that overflows and a deep calmness will take place.
The danjeon is located in the exact center of the body. That doesn't means to the left or right, up or down, but to the
exact center. That is the Universe itself. The Universe is the location that is neither to the left nor right, neither up nor
down. It's neither too high, nor too low, it doesn't lean to either side, thus it's symbolic of the most universal emotion,
the most universeal truths.
The exact location for each person is different, but it general we can say it is locaton 2 inches below the navel.

Benefits
Danjeon breathing means to breath with the primary focus of gathering and pulling in energy. "Gi" (energy) is the
basic energy of life that allows us to breathe easily and live. General people pull in very little of this energy, and that
which is inhaled is full of lots of toxins. This is also because they are doing chest breathing. However, if you are able
to breathe from your lower abdomen danjeon, breathing acts like a pump and stores the energy deeply in the danjeon.
If one can store energy sufficiently in the danjeon, energy spreads throughout the body like water overflowing and this
makes the body and mind healthy. In the process, the toxins of the body are sent out. As we grow older, our breathing
capacity decreases and abdominal breathing changes into thoracic breathing. Those who aren't healthy move their
chests rather than their abdomens when they breathe. If you train to do Danjeon breathing, your breathing will return
to the breathing of newborns. Babies move their lower abdomen up and down while breathing comfortably. Abdominal
breathing, moving the entire abdomen, is helpful for health. But its effects are far less than those of danjeon breathing
for it is not vital energy-centered. Energy, once drawn into danjeon, is stored there.
(Chest Breathing Abdomen Breathing Danjeon Breathing )
Human breathing can be divided into three kinds: breathing in deeply from the chest, breathing in through the entire
stomach, and breathing through the danjeon only.
1) Chest breathing: This is the average breathing of normal people. Air comes in through atmospheric pressure
according to the opening and closing of the rib cages. We can call it throat and chest breathing.
2) Whole stomach breathing: It's breathing through the entire stomach area. Breathing in this way, the top and
bottom part of the stomach moves. This kind of breathing, which looks like air has entered the stomach, is called
whole stomach breathing. By doing this, one expands one's lung capacity and improves the circulation of the body.
3) Danjeon breathing: This means to breath correctly just from the danjeon. Setting it apart from abdomen breathing,
danjeon breathing pushes up the area below the navel like a balloon.
If you breathe like this, energy is gathered and accumulates in the danjeon. Of course, not only does one expand the
lung's capacity and improve circulation like abdomen breathing, but one can achieve changes through energy as well.

Beginners should do danjeon breathing lying down. Place your thumbs together at your navel and make a triangle.
Cough. You will feel a tension point below your navel. Focus your mind there as breathe.
1) First do your breathing evenly.
For example, if you breathe in 5 seconds, then breathe out 5 seconds; you have to breathe in and out evenly in this
way and then your breathing capacity gets precise and expands. At first, inhaling slowly and exhaling slowly is the
basic principle.
(Chest Breathing Abdomen Breathing Danjeon Breathing )
2) Focus on the danjeon and breathe in and out - but concentration is most important. Think that there is no other part
but the danjeon; that only the danjeon exists. Think that danjeon is the center of focus, and concentrate only on
breathing with sincerity. "Concentration" means that energy is gathering in one place. If you concentrate, energy is
accumulated. As cultivating the danjeon spot is most important for beginners, it's desirable to only concentrate on
doing lying down breathing for many months in order to accumulate energy. It takes 100 takes to build one's danjeon
in the beginning. This period is very important.
3) The secret of breathing is in "exhaling". Breathe out long and endlessly. Spare nothing, empty fully, and as a
reaction energy enters the body.
4) Always maintain the correct posture, which means to lie down on a hard surface, with your feet together or slightly
apart, and make it so that the body is free of tension in any part. Like blowing up a balloon, inhale in a way that only
the danjeon rises up.
5) Unless otherwise noted, we do not stop or hold our breathing in any way. "Holding your breath" means to stop in
the middle of your breathing; but as the energy may get scattered, it is not desirable.
*Danjeon Breathing: Sitting Posture
After one has learned to balance one's breathing and accumulate energy, the best method for concentration,
gathering energy and going deeper into one's meditation is sitting meditation. As one can become very tense if the
body is not comfortable, sitting in the half-lotus position is recommended. Change leg positions often to balance the
body, especially using the leg that feels least comfortable.
1) Make sure the spine is upright and that the top of your head and the tailbone are in one line, with your chin lifted up
slightly. Keep the head upright.
2) Interlace your hands with the left thumb on top. Make sure the fingers are together with no spaces for energy to be
released, and concentrate to gather energy into our danejon.
3) To receive energy, breathe in strongly into your danjeon, if you wish to lower your waves and and calm down,
breathe in slowly and breathe out slowly.

Benefits
When you learn how to do danjeon breathing at first, the lying-on-back position, is desirable. The position is good for
accumulating energy It's best to lie light on a little hard floor without a pillow. Put your big toes together and place your
hands lightly on your danjeon area, relax the whole body, and close the anus consciously so as to not to let energy
out.
Swell up the area of the danjeon as you breathe in and let it fall as you breathe out. The key point is to exert force
only to the danjeon, as if you are blowing up a balloon without straining the other parts of the abdomen. Beginners
usually move the whole abdomen, so it's good to check your breathing by putting one hand on the stomach and the
other on the danjeon. If you move the stomach when breathing, correct your breathing not to move it.
Pay attention only to breathing, thinking that you had no other part than danjeon and that "danjeon is the center".
When you let out all the bad and impure energy and stray thoughts and empty yourself by breathing out, clear and
pure energy comes in as a reaction to that. Breathe out as fully as possible. And as you breathe in, think you take in
the whole Universe and inhale deeply. At first the ratio of exhaling and inhaling should be 7:3 to empty your body and
mind and then gradually lengthen and smoothen the inhaling to the ratio 5:5.
Some people hold their breath after they inhale or exhale to get some effects. But holding your breathing make your
energy stagnated and give much burden on the body. It's ideal to take long and fine breaths, but don't try to lengthen
the period of breath unnaturally. Take breaths as naturally and long as you can, or you may suffer from some side
effects.

Releases Impure Energy
Danjeon breathing expels toxic energies in the body that have been gathered from stress. Scientists call this
accumulation of stress in the body "free radicals". Danjeon breathing sends these kinds of impure energy outside the
body. As you exhale longer, the impure energy is released, and as you inhale longer, you take in universe energy.
That's why one feels more calm, relaxed and stable after doing danjeon breathing. Stress and fire exist in the body in
terms of impure energy. Although these negative energies are stagnate in the body, they begin to be cleared as you
breathe, and they are sent outward. Those emptied places in the body are filled up with pure and clean energy.

Seongye Practice
History and Goal
Principles and System
The core of Seongye Practice is breathing, and it is the advanced course for those seeking enlightenment in their
daily life. Seongye Practice begins with breathing, endures through breathing, and finishes with breathing. Through
breathing in the danjeon in a state of high concentration with alpha waves, one gets connected to Univere energy,
which brings one closer to their true self, that is, original nature.
Seon-gye practice is
a meditation method
which begins with breathing,
endures with breathing,
and finishes with breathing.
Breathing is a process which, naturally, all living creatures
and even inanimate objects existing in the Universe
have no option but to do.
The history of the Universe is
something that is accomplished
through the breathing of solid matter,
and the evolution of the Universe
is possible
only through the breathing of the Seon-ins
who participate in the basic flow of the Universe.
The way to absorb
the breathing of the Seon-ins
which flows through Universal lines
is breathing through the Dan-jeon,
focusing on consciousness,
and the breathing in Seon-gye Practice
is a breathing with alpha wavelengths
in a state of extreme concentration.
Through breathing
Let me be pure.
Let me be bright.
Let me be warm.
By becoming a Seon-in through breathing,
for my own sake,
for the sake of my neighbours,
for the sake of the world
for the sake of nature, for all creation,
and for Heaven,
let me become one with them.
Through breathing,
I, at this moment
enter the gate of Pal-mun-won which leads to the Universe.

Seongye Practice
History and Goal
Principles and System
In short, this method to reach the universe has been practiced for thousands of years. However, in general it was
open to only a few advanced individuals here and there who had a mission to lead others on the Earth or to play some
other roles. It is only recently, that Seongye Practice has been opened fully for the whole world to participate in and
become members of the Universe. Historically, there were many famous individuals in the East who reached
enlightenment through this method and helped achieve various benefits for their people at that time.
The final goal of Seongye Practice is "Seongye". It is the destination one reaches through enlightenment and is the
symbol that represents great freedom. The opposite word of Seongye would be the mundane world. It's a dark crevice
where people are influenced by other's childishness, anger and greed. Seongye has broked out of this darkness is like
a pure, bright and warm wind.
Enlightnment means to know. It's nothing huge; it means to know the principles behind the movement of the Universe.
People think the Universe moves according to their mind, but in fact one gets to know that it operates according to a
certain system. Human actions, the human social system look like an accident, but in fact they operate according to
certain operating principles. In general normal people have no knowledge how things in the world work. They don't
understand the things that come to them each day, nor do they understand what is happening in society. As they don't
know, they stick to science. For example, science explains what will happen if there is a drought, what sickness will
come and so on. Enligthenment is the state one one just knows, even if one knows nothing about science. Why is
there a drought for such a long time, what is the meaning of the Universe, you just know it. You come to know not
through knowledge, but wisdom and intuition.
Your body and mind become healthy
Initial effect of this practice regards health. If the Gi of the Universe comes into you through breathing, any impure Gi
inside your body is forced to come out. As your own Gi becomes clearer and clearer, the conditions of gloom and
frustration in your mind disappear. Your self-healing power is strengthened in the process.
You come to know who you are
While practicing, you can know intuitively who you are, what you should do or what you should seek. You are not
awakened through intellect but through intuition, as you are able to communicate with your Original Nature via alpha-
waves. As you acknowledge the fact that you are a part of the Universe and what you have to do, all many of your
anxiety and frustration begins to reduce.
Love of the Univers grows
Human love is a conditional love. Conditions bring about distrust or hatred of the other party. But the love of the
Universe, with its clear and bright nature, is an unconditional love. Through repeated training, your sexual energy
transforms into the energy for spiritual evolution. If you are connected with the main body of the Universe, your human
love is elevated to the love of the Universe.
infinite creativeness arises by reading the waves coming from Univers
As you can approach worldwide information by entering the World Wide Web, if you are connected with the waves of
the Universe through breathing, you can read all the information about the Universe. As a result you can tap into the
infinite power of imagination, creativeness and inspiration. Also you will have a power of insight to penetrate the
essence of the Universe.
You can reach Enlightenment
Enlightenment is such a natural thing, like the ripening of crops or the blooming of flowers. To be enlightened is to
know the substances of oneself and the Universe, to get closer to them, and finally to merge with each other and earn
eternity. Enlightenment is a joy. To dance merrily with a bright, smiling face is an expression of being one with one's
Original Nature and the Universe. In Seongye Practice Enlightenment is not the end of practice but only a
commencement. After attaining Enlightenment, you work towards the evolution of the Universe
Seongye Practice

Seongye Practice
History and Goal
Principles and System
A "Seonin"(, one who has reached enlightenment and acts a member of the Universe) is basically free. They are
free from themselves and they are free from others. A Seonin is capable. When they push forward, they push forward,
when they must empty, they empty, one who can do as their mind wishes is a Seonin. The have the ability to do as
they wish. If they wish to know, they know, if they wish to go, they go, and if they don't wish to go, they don't goTo
be able to do as your mind wishes freely as a human being nothing could be more satisfying.
Frustration vanishes
Human life has no choice but to be frustrating before enlightenment, because they don't know why events happen
around them in daily life. Why does my partner act this way? Why do my children do like this? Why do those people
act that way? It's because they don't know the answers to these, and it's because they don't know about the world we
cannot see. Where do humans come from, where are they going, what is in the after-world, what happens after death
- as one comes to know these after enlightenment, frustrations just vanish.
Fundamentally Comfortable
It's easy to wonder why enlightenment is important in this world. But enlightenment is not something particular in itself;
it is only the stable mind that doesn't shake by anything.
People fight and get tired over daily things as they live and are unhappy. They say life as a sea of pain. Enlightenment
is what frees you from these. If you awaken, you are fundamentally comfortable. As most people are full of mental
conflict all the time, if you awaken, you are always comfortable.
