For this years contest, I was able to decide quickly on the topic that I wanted to
research. Last suer I participated in the !orandy Scholars Institute, and while we
were in Washin"ton, D.#., I listened to a lecture, The Home Front: Life and Work in
World War II America, "iven by $ro%essor &ric 'rneson o% (eor"e Washin"ton
)niversity. Later that day, y teacher asked i% any !*D topics had popped into y head
and one had+ ,-esponsibilities o% Farers in World War II.. /his topic has a historical
re%erence %or y %aily, and I was e0cited to create ties between y pro1ect and %aily
history. I en1oyed learnin" about y "rand%ather and listenin" to y dad recallin" his
stories.

booklets, scrapbooks, "as trackers, and other World War II era docuentation. /hen

childrens ipact on the war e%%ort. &ach o% these avenues was interestin" to research,
and I learned lots throu"h the process. I had never even heard o% the 3racero $ro"ra
be%ore y research on this pro1ect. /hrou"h this research, I %ound any WWII posters
and advertiseents that I %ound quite interestin". I included these in y website as each
o% the tells a certain ipact o% the war and is directly related to the success o% the war.

the in%oration o% y topic, and allow it to be presented in a well5or"ani6ed and

pictures. /he research was in5depth, but the ost tie5consuin" aspect o% y website
was the annotated biblio"raphy. It took a lon" tie to %ind y pictures and then to cite
the a%terwards. /he ost challen"in" aspect o% akin" this website was the word
count. I always have issues condensin" everythin" to be less than 7,899 words, which
caused e to scrutini6e and prioriti6e the in%oration I wanted included.
/he responsibilities o% %arers ade a direct in%luence on the war. Food
production in the ).S. was at its hi"hest point in %i%teen years: /here was a chain
reaction, a circle o% li%e durin" that era, like there still continues to be today. /he %arers
would support the nation and nourish workers so they would be able to work in %actories
to send supplies overseas. /hose supplies cobined with the %ood, helped nourish and
de%end our soldiers "oin" into battle. We were also supplyin" other 'llied countries a
steady %ood source. 'll o% these responsibilities were thrust upon the %arin" counity
rapidly and handled with as uch e%%iciency as possible. Without the responsibility that
these %arers shouldered, the support syste durin" the war would have chan"ed
draatically.
