Pedestrian Struck by Vehicle in Center of Town
On Friday, March 7, 2014 at 5:34 p.m., the Riverside Police Department received numerous 911 phone calls of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in the area of Longcommon and Forest. When the first officer arrived, he found a female sitting on the ground upright on Longcommon Road. He also observed a beige Chevrolet van stopped in front of her. Riverside Police contacted the 911 center and had paramedics dispatched to evaluate the injured party. It was learned through the parties involved and numerous witnesses that the following events took place. The victim, a 62-year-old female resident of Berwyn, stated that she waited for vehicles to stop each way at the stop sign at Longcommon and Forest. While all vehicles were stopped, she began to walk through the crosswalk at Forest Avenue and was struck by the van (2005 Chevy Van). The victim stated that she began to yell at the driver in an effort to get his attention but she was not successful. The victim was struck and rolled up the hood of the van. Riverside Police cited a male 16 year old juvenile driver of Riverside for failure to yield to pedestrian in a crosswalk. Riverside Police were notified that on Saturday, March 8th, 2014 the victim checked herself back into the hospital for additional medical treatment. As of Saturday afternoon, she remained at Loyola Hospital undergoing additional observation.
Riverside Police Cite 14 Juveniles after a Drinking Party
A Riverside officer, while on patrol on Saturday March 8, 2014 at 1:52 a.m., noticed three individuals who appeared to be minors walking in the middle of the roadway at Olmstead and Delaplaine Road. As the officer approached one of the individuals, he ran from police. The two that remained were interviewed by the officers and they stated that they were coming from a party on the 300 block Blackhawk. Both appeared to have been drinking. When officers investigated the exact address given on Blackhawk, they learned that that information was fictitious. During further investigation, police learned that there was an underage drinking party taking place on the 100 block of South Delaplaine.
Officers went to the address on the 100 block of South Delaplaine and encountered a female juvenile who stated that she was having friends over for a birthday party and that her parents were out of town on vacation in Mexico. Officers could see obvious signs that there was drinking going on. Officers held a total of 14 juveniles in the home and contacted each of the parents to come to the address and pick them up in person. All 14 juveniles had been drinking and there was evidence of alcohol consumption inside the home. All 14 juveniles were cited for consumption of alcohol by a minor under the village ordinance. Juveniles cited included both males and females from Riverside, North Riverside, Oakbrook, Brookfield, and Lyons. All were 17 or 18 years of age.
