The Communist Takeover of Vietnam: An Abomination of Human Rights

My partner and I knew the basics of Vietnam, the occupation of foreign super powers, the takeover of communism, and just an overview of what crimes were being committed. That was all basic; we had in depth knowledge on how or why the communist took over. We had no idea how it affected peoples lives. This is what incited our interest in Vietnam. We were always interested in how governments affected the people lives. The Vietnamese government has drastically altered the way of life in Vietnam. My partner and I were interested in how the government greatly influenced the Vietnamese people to side with them, but soon fell into corruption- leaving Vietnamese society in ruins. In our early research, we planned to interview two people who had immigrated to the U.S to escape communist rule. We had to put the number of interviews down to one though, because the other interviewee suddenly had to go out of the country, because of unknown reason. We interviewed Timmie Tran, whose story and opinions captivated us. He talked about his childhood, the crimes the communist committed against the people, and how his life is better in the U.S. His interview really showed the mindset of the people, and how heavily oppressed they were. We found websites that were integral to our websites own information. The websites helped us gain an understanding of the foreign powers in Vietnam, and how they people were desperate for independence. They were blindly led by Ho Chi Minh, into thinking that once he became leader of Vietnam, everything will prosper. In turn, Ho Chi Minh has led the government into corruption. Not only harming country, but also people who have to suffer through the harsh policies and corruption that is in their everyday lives. Without the websites that we found, my partner and I wouldnt have gained such in depth knowledge on the French occupation of Vietnam, the communist takeover, and the violation of human rights. At first we thought about making a poster board, because we saw the NHD examples and thought we could make a more creative poster. As we got more information though, we saw that our poster board would be not able to hold all of our information. As a result, we then chose a website, because we thought we could get all of our information across. Plus, by using a website, we have more opportunities to improve the looks of our presentation. The Communist Takeover of Vietnam: An Abomination of Human Rights relates to this years theme of Rights and Responsibilities by showing how humans rights were violat ed by the communist government, the same government that also promised to bring prosperity to the people.
