What an exciting and busy summer at Joshua House! It started off by fielding a team in Ty-
rone's TBall league. It was a fun experience for the kids and our coaches. There were five
week-long camps that hosted a total of 75 campers. We had two great interns, Lance Babb,
a senior at PSU, and Salena Bradigan, a freshman at Messiah College, help make the sum-
mer camps a success. They also experimented with a new program called Kids In Motion
that incorporated fun, fitness and faith for kindergarten through third graders on Sunday
nights.
One of the major highlights of the summer was taking 13 teens and young adults to Compas-
sion Commission, a youth convention that worked with Rock City Church to fix up and give
away a house in inner city Baltimore. For a week, we worked construction, picked up trash,
planted flowers, painted and learned how to serve with compassion. I was honored to be a
main speaker to the 200 teens two of the nights. One of our teens was recognized as the out-
standing compassion camper for the week.
As a follow-up to Compassion Commission, we gathered our kids, teens and adults for a day
of doing the same in Tyrone. Over 40 individuals spent the morning and afternoon picking up
trash, sweeping sidewalks, washing cars and inviting people to Joshua House for a night of
praise & worship with speaker Captain Bob Bradbury. We saw God really impact a number
of teens that evening who are expecting to be instrumental in impacting their schools this fall.
Another highlight was HoopsFest. To my surprise, we hosted 93 teams and over 400 players
for the day! Over 750 players, volunteers & bystanders converged on downtown Tyrone on a
beautiful day. Cornerstone Television, a national Christian TV station in Pittsburgh, invited
me to go on air to share about HoopsFest.
Along with all of the exciting events and programs, we continue to work on finishing the Who we are:
second floor. We are on a tight timeline to get it finished by the end of October when our Executive Director
permit expires. So, please join us in prayer to see everything fall into place. I would like to Jim Kilmartin

HoopsFest 2009 was a tremendous success. We had 16 more teams than last year,
more community organizations involved and were able to raise a good portion of
Joshua House’s operating budget with this one fundraiser. Thank you to all who helped
make the day a remarkable event. 2010 will mark the 10th Annual HoopsFest....Be
looking for new events & contests, more giveaways and lots of great basketball. We

The 2nd floor is scheduled to be completed in just a few weeks. Things

are moving along quickly. The ceiling and lights will be installed in the

Joshua House Juniors Summer Camps

Basketball Camp Î This year we added a morning basketball camp for kids K-6th grade. We
used our own basketball court at Joshua House for the 21 campers. A
number of former Tyrone players helped teach them individual skills, teamwork and work ethic.
Each day one of the counselors shared a devotional correlating basketball with his/her daily walk
with God. The players were engaged and inspired.

Soccer Camp Í Boasting over 21 campers, this year’s soccer

camp was well attended and full of fun. Three
school districts were represented and campers ranged in experience.
Some had won out of state tournaments while others were trying soccer for the very first time. Al-
though abilities varied, campers became good friends. Guest instructor Avie Babb, a former Mes-
siah College player and All-American, brought stories of her national championship victories as well
as drills to aid in skill development throughout the week. In the end, all the campers agreed that
soccer camp was a “kickin” good time!

Dance and Theater Camp 2009 was a complete success! The

Dance Theater Camp Î campers had a week that was packed full of theater games,
dance basics, games, music, plays and a whole lot of fun. Each day was divided into various
segments focusing on theater, dance and then ending each day with an art or craft project
that went with our theme of a 1950’s diner. Campers helped to design the set and make part
of their own poodle skirt. Everything came together for a short performance at the end of the
week, when the campers performed a short skit and dance
to impress their family and friends!

Outdoor Adventure Camp 4th-6th Í Hiking and Boating and Climbing, Oh My! Armed
with only a compass and trail map, this year’s out-
door adventure campers learned the art of orienteering as they traveled through Rothrock
State Forest. Boys and girls from Hollidaysburg, Bellwood and Tyrone became close friends
as they depended on one another to find their way out of the woods, up a rock wall, or back
to shore in their canoes. Camp counselors Lance Babb, Chris Bradigan and Salena Bradigan
brought humor to the trips, helping to make hiking rough
terrain fun for everyone.

Outdoor Adventure Camp K-3rd Î Interns Lance Babb and Salena Bradigan planned
and led our younger outdoor camp. Camp Anderson,
Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center, Reservoir Park and Canoe Creek are just a few of the
places campers experienced outdoors. Looking for wildlife everywhere they went, campers
found themselves face to face with crayfish, newts, spiders, snakes and birds of prey. Some
little ones were nervous at first, but by the end of the week everyone was getting wet, lifting
rocks and finding some of nature’s coolest creatures.
