Trade Openness and GDP in Pakistan

The document analyzes the impact of trade openness on GDP in Pakistan from 1990 to 2015. It discusses Pakistan's history of trade liberalization, including reductions in tariffs and import restrictions from the 1990s onwards. However, GDP growth rates remained average compared to other countries. The document reviews literature on how countries like Indonesia initially imposed trade barriers before opening up to gain competitive advantages. It analyzes trade liberalization trends in Pakistan over the decades, noting periods of higher growth with more openness, and lower growth following certain crises or restrictions. Statistical analysis is used to model the relationship between GDP, exports, tariffs, and exchange rates over the period studied.
