The movie "Identity Thief" depicts the crime of identity theft and how it can easily be committed today due to evolving technology. The film follows Sandy Patterson as his identity is stolen by Dawn Budgie. Sandy works hard to track down Dawn and clear his name of the crimes committed under his identity. Through understanding Dawn's perspective, Sandy is able to help her realize the wrong in her actions. Dawn turns herself into the authorities, and Sandy's hard work results in his problems being solved and Dawn receiving a chance to reform her life for the better.

ACETHIC K32 Reflection Paper: Identity Thief

The movie Identity Thief clearly depicted what would happen if a case of identity theft took place. Throughout the film, one can observe how most crimes, especially identity theft, are now executed with ease. This is due to the fact that our world and its society are continuously evolving. Criminals have become smarter and have a lot of plans in mind before executing the crime. In this film, it was Dawn Budgie who portrayed one of the criminals today. As one can see, she can easily commit her crimes for she was a smooth talker that most would easily believe. Sandy Patterson, on the other hand, portrayed the victim of this crime. This movie focused on how these two characters tried to understand the point of view of the other when it comes to living life. In the film, Sandy did his absolute best in order to track down and chase the person responsible for all his sudden misfortunes, Dawn Budgie, who was using Sandys name and credit cards to live a life full of luxury. At the end of the movie, Dawn realized and regretted her crimes and with that, she gave herself up to the authorities to atone for those crimes. If I were in Sandy Pattersons situation, I would have also done the exact same thing because if I just stand by and do absolutely nothing, I will surely lose everything. From my job to my family, I will lose all of it. In other words, my whole life would be in danger of being a messy one. Also, I agree with Sandys actions throughout the film. One would be him being patient and did his best to get to know the criminal better. I think I would have done that as well because I believe that criminals all have a specific reason why they did what they did, and discovering that reason might help me understand the criminals actions better. And if I understand the criminal better, then I can have a chance to give that criminal a friendly advice that might help him/her realize his/her wrongdoings and try to start a new life after atoning for it. In the movie, through Sandys actions, Dawn was able to realize that what she did was wrong and that she need to stop it and try to live a better life.

To conclude, I believe that all the things that Sandy had done throughout the film to clear his name from all the false accusations that he received was the right thing to do. Basically, because of his actions, he was able to solve all his problems and at the same time, he was able to save Dawns life from becoming darker. Because of his actions, he was able to save his life and the criminals life. That is why I really commend what Sandy did and I would have done the exact same thing if I was put in his situation because at the end of the day, a life without filth and guilt is the best life to live.
