Her mother comes in to wake her up. Mom: Gretta-Green, wake up! Time for your first day at your new school! Gretta: Mom, can we just go back to Georgia? Mom: You know we cant do that, Gretta-Green. We live in Boston now for my job. Gretta: What if the kids dont like me? Mom: Dont be ridiculous! Everyone will love you! I bought you a new green bow to wear. I packed you your favorite meal from Biscuit Barn. Go put it on, were gonna be late. Gretta: (Aside) I dont know. Do you think school will be okay? SCENE TWO: At school, and all of the kids are in a semi-circle with Teacher standing by the door. Roger: I heard there a new student coming today, Miss Frizzle. Miss Frizzle: Thats right, Roger. So, lets all be nice to her. (Walks out) Jimmy: I heard shes from Georgia. Clarissa: I heard shes not blue OR yellow. Agnes: Its okay to be other colors! Blue Children: NERD! (Miss Frizzle walks back in with Gretta and everyone silences.)

Miss Frizzle: Okay, everyone. This is Gretta, she came all the way from Georgia. Carlos: If youre from Georgia, why are you green? (All Children, except Agnes laugh) Miss Frizzle: Carlos... Carlos: (Insincerely) Sorry, Miss Frizzle. Miss Frizzle: Okay class, no were going to have Reading Groups. Everyone get together in groups! Miss Frizzle walks to the chalk board and starts writing, oblivious to everything behind her. Blue Children group together, and Green Children group together. Gretta walks over to the Blue Children, who immediately stare at her. Angelica: Why dont you go sit over there, with the yellows? Roger: Yeah, good one Angelica! Carlos: Be quiet, Roger. (Southern accent) See you later, Gretta-Green. (The Blue Children laugh) Saddened, Gretta-Green walks away from the Blue Children and sits in the middle. Agnes notices her and walks over. Agnes: Hey, Gretta. My names Agnes. Do you want to be in our reading group? Were reading Goosebumps! Gretta: You really want me to? (She looks over to the rest of the Yellow Children, who look less than thrilled.) Agnes: Sure I do! Clarissa: Hey Gretta! Im Clarissa. Jimmy: She thinks she knows it all. Im Jimmy! Gretta follows Agnes, sits down with the Yellow Children, and starts to read a Goosebumps book. Miss Frizzle turns back around. Miss Frizzle: Class, put down your books! I have a wonderful announcement! Our class has been chosen to represent PS118 on Slime-Time Live next week! (Gretta raises her hand) Yes, Gretta? Gretta: Whats Slime-Time Live?

Carlos: (Whispering to the Green Children) Shes like a Martian... Angelica: (Whispering back) Shes even green! Miss Frizzle: Oh, of course! They dont have Slime-Time Live in Georgia. Slime-Time Live is a game show where you answer trivia and if you get it wrong you get slimed and if you get it right you get slimed! Gretta: So, being slimed is a good thing? Clarissa: Its a great thing. I got to go on Slime-Time Live last year! Miss Frizzle: Oh, theres the bell! Time to go home! Tomorrow, well practice and split into teams. Carlos: Us versus the NERDS. Miss Frizzle: Last question: What are the first seven numbers of Pi? (Everyone is stummped) Roger: How can a pie have numbers? Miss Frizzle: This isnt the kind of pie you eat, Roger. Its a number. No one knows? (Gretta sheepishly raises her hand.) Gretta? Gretta: 3.14159 Miss Frizzle: Thats correct! Jimmy: Way to go, Gretta! Agnes: That was awesome! Miss Frizzle: Now that weve practiced a little, why dont you all get up and pick your teams! (The Blue Children stand up together, and the others stand up together.) You have three minutes! Jimmy: Where did you learn that? Clarissa: Yeah! Youre super smart. Roger: (To Blue Children) Were never going to win now! Angelica: I know! Its gonna stink getting slimed instead of getting slimed. Angelica: Oh Gretta, we were just kidding with you! Roger: Yeah! Gretta: Really? Carlos: Of course we were! We love having you around, Gretta! Thats just how we welcome new people.

Roger: Yeah! The color green is so in right now. Angelica: We dont normally do this, so this is kinda a big deal, but we want you to join our team for Slime-Time Live. Gretta: Are you guys really serious? Roger: More serious-er than serious. Gretta: Well, I kinda already told the other team Id be with them... Carlos: Gretta, you cant be serious. Look at those nerds. Theyre so weird! (They look over and the Yellow Children are all doing odd things.) Dont you want to be cool like us? Gretta: (Pause.) Okay, Ill be on your team. Carlos and Angelica: Perfect! Roger: Perfect... Miss Frizzle: Theres the bell! Recess time! The Blue Children immediately run towards the door.. The Yellow Children come up to Gretta. SCENE FIVE: Both teams are lined up, facing each other. The game show host comes running out from the side and stands in the middle. Game Show Host: Hey everybody! Welcome to Slime-Time Live! Im your host Slimey Sandra... Clarissa: (Aside to Jimmy) This lady looks a lot like Miss Frizzle.

Jimmy: Most adults around here seem to look the same. Clarissa: Is that not suspicious to anyone else? Game Show Host: Alright, children of PS118, were going to start the first round now! Carlos: (To the Blue Children) Remember, let Gretta-Gross the Nerd, answer all the questions. (Angelica and Roger nod.) Game Show Host: What is of ? Gretta: 1/6th! Game Show Host: Thats correct! Ten points to the Blue Team! Second question: When was the Declaration of Independence signed? Gretta: July 4th, 1776! Game Show Host: Correct! Ten points to the Blue Team! The final question is worth triple the points! Blue Team, if you answer this, you win. How many bones are in the human body? Gretta wavers, and the Blue Team starts getting upset. Agnes: (Whispers to Gretta) 206. Gretta: (Looking unsure) 206? Game Show Host: (Dramatic pause) CORRECT! THE BLUE TEAM WINS! (All the children get slimed.) Thank you everyone! Have a good night! We were still mean and hurt peoples feeling by calling them names, and the yellow kids were still nice and congratulated us. Angelica: That is true. I guess what you look like doesnt decide who you are as a person. Carlos: Youre all right. Im really sorry for being so mean to everyone. Agnes: Its okay, Carlos. We forgive you.
